Full Job Description
This Regional Environmental Manager (REM) is responsible for owning the lifecycle of complex environmental compliance programs across Southern California Amazon Last Mile Delivery Stations.

The REM shapes and evolves the regional environmental compliance strategy by identifying emerging risks, analyzing systemic defect patterns, and designing programmatic solutions that close compliance gaps at scale. The REM translates senior leadership vision into executable program frameworks, defines success criteria, and owns the roadmap for implementation across the region.

The REM works with internal and external partners, including government entities, contractors, consultants, designers, construction, operations, and other key stakeholders. This REM will own environmental compliance across up to 15+ Amazon Delivery Stations in the region, with oversight of Multi-Site Environmental Managers (MSEMs) and Environmental Specialists.

This is a hands-on leadership position that includes time in the yard and on the floor of busy delivery stations conducting inspections and audits, mentoring MSEMs, ensuring program quality, leading regulatory interactions, and driving accountability across multiple departments and all levels of employees throughout the operation.

Key job responsibilities

- Own the lifecycle of complex environmental compliance programs across the region - from strategy through execution and continuous improvement.

- Shape regional environmental compliance strategy by identifying emerging risks, analyzing systemic defect patterns, and proposing scalable programmatic solutions before they require escalation.

- Design and sustain program controllership mechanisms (business reviews, metric dashboards, escalation triggers) that operate independently without requiring manager intervention.

- Independently proxy for the Sr Mgr in weekly and monthly forums (WBRs, MBRs) with full ownership of environmental sections - able to answer, defend, and commit.

- Force multiply by designing scalable systems, processes, and training that enable MSEMs and operational stakeholders to execute at higher quality with less intervention over time.

- Mentor MSEMs and Environmental Specialists; set the quality bar for root cause analysis and corrective action.

- Lead COE/A3 investigations independently to closure with leadership, ensuring root causes explain systemic "why" rather than describing "what."

- Own procedures and change management for the region, driving adoption end-to-end.

- Lead regulatory agency interactions - including inspections, enforcement responses, and agency negotiations - and drive follow-up requirements to closure.

- Manage and oversee local, state, and federal environmental regulations and Amazon policy.

- Develop strategic programs by integrating with engineering, construction, and operations. Drive an environmentally responsible culture within the organization.

- Ensure work performed by contractors, consultants, and employees is completed in accordance with Amazon standards. Provide comprehensive oversight to 3P environmental vendors and consultants.

- Drive environmental metrics - build tools and dashboards that give stakeholders the information they need to make good decisions at scale.

- Assess emerging regulations and proactively design mitigation plans before regulatory deadlines create urgency.

- Own or coordinate construction and launch activities for new sites within the region to ensure environmental compliance at or before operational readiness.

- Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with governmental agencies and throughout the company.

- Navigate ambiguity effectively - find paths forward where solutions are not pre-defined and coordinate cross-functionally without deferring decisions upward.

- Manage resource trade-offs and competing priorities across the region, escalating only when decisions genuinely exceed authority.

- Submit time-critical reports to various governmental agencies.

- Up to 50% travel.

A day in the life

- Own regional execution of environmental procedures and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, regional, and local regulations.

- Design and implement scalable compliance mechanisms across the region - covering air emissions, surface water, wastewater, waste, and other environmental media.

- Manage and prepare site-specific and regional environmental reporting to regulators and within Amazon.

- Analyze systemic defect patterns and environmental metrics; review weekly and monthly trends to determine where programmatic improvements are needed.

- Drive corrective action where targets are not met - negotiate resources and priorities across organizations to ensure programs are delivered on time and at the required quality standard.

- Lead root cause analyses for environmental incidents; ensure corrective actions prevent recurrence at a systemic level, not just site-level fixes.

- Conduct and oversee environmental audits and inspections for continuous improvement; set the quality bar for inspection rigor.

- Monitor and provide strategic guidance on multi-site performance against applicable environmental regulations, programs, and Amazon global standards.

- Design and sustain business review cadences and escalation triggers that surface risk in real time.
