Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:

The Refining HESS Analyst supports the Refining HESS team by providing practical business, analytics, and digital support to strengthen HESS program execution across Refining. The role works with HESS SMEs to translate business needs into clear digital project definitions, develops supporting documentation, builds and maintains reporting or visualization products, and helps ensure implemented tools remain usable, supported, and aligned with HESS work processes. This role also serves as a functional subject matter expert for assigned HESS applications, workflows, data, reporting, and user support needs and will be a critical role in the "run and maintain" process for implemented tools, and other safety and operational applications .

Relocation assistance is available for this role.

Travel up to 25% is expected.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Analysis and Requirements Development
  • Engage refinery and corporate HESS stakeholders to understand needs, ideas, pain points, and opportunities for new or improved tools.
  • Translate stakeholder input into clear business proposals that define the problem, expected value, scope, key requirements, and recommended approach.
  • Develop project charters and supporting materials to align stakeholders, confirm sponsorship, and secure ongoing business support.
  • Partner with IT & Digital and business stakeholders to plan implementation, user readiness, testing, training, communication, and change impacts.
  • Ensure new tools include a practical sustainment plan for ownership, support, updates, adoption monitoring, and continuous improvement after implementation.


HESS Applications Subject Matter Expertise
  • Serve as a functional SME for assigned Refining HESS applications, processes, workflows, reporting needs, and system capabilities. This does not require subject matter expertise for all Safety, PSM, and Environmental programs, but must be familiar with them and the SME for those programs.
  • Provide practical guidance to users and stakeholders on HESS functionality, expected use, and business process alignment.
  • Maintain working knowledge of HESS data structures, user roles, integration points, reporting outputs, and common support needs.
  • Support issue investigation, troubleshooting, root cause review, and business impact assessment for HESS-related system concerns.
  • Develop or maintain user guidance, training content, process documentation, FAQs, release notes, and other sustainment materials.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HESS tools based on user feedback, operational learning, and observed work process needs.


Project Coordination and Delivery Support
  • Coordinate project activities across Refining HESS, IT & Digital, vendors, site stakeholders, and other business partners.
  • Track project milestones, deliverables, risks, decisions, dependencies, action items, and follow-up needs.
  • Facilitate project meetings, document outcomes, and provide clear status updates to stakeholders and leadership as needed.
  • Support planning for implementation, testing, training, communications, change impacts, and user adoption.
  • Assist with intake, prioritization, and scoping of enhancement requests, support items, and new project opportunities.
  • Escalate issues that could affect project timeline, scope, usability, business readiness, or expected value.
  • Provide regular updates to HESS leadership on progress, resource needs, barriers, and changes to scope or timeline.


IT and Digital Liaison
  • Act as a primary connection point between Refining HESS business needs and IT & Digital delivery teams.
  • Ensure business objectives, operational constraints, and end-user needs are clearly represented throughout solution design and delivery.
  • Collaborate with developers, architects, analysts, product owners, and support teams to clarify requirements and resolve open questions.
  • Help align HESS-related technology work with Refining priorities, system standards, integration needs, and long-term support expectations.
  • Promote consistent communication between business and technical teams throughout the project lifecycle.


Stakeholder Engagement and Continuous Improvement
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with refinery users, corporate HESS partners, IT & Digital resources, and support teams.
  • Collect and synthesize user feedback to identify recurring themes, system improvement opportunities, and adoption barriers.
  • Support continuous improvement activities that strengthen HESS usability, data quality, reporting consistency, and user confidence.
  • Assist with developing metrics, dashboards, or reporting approaches to monitor system adoption and solution effectiveness.
  • Contribute to HESS roadmap discussions by sharing user insights, business needs, system pain points, and enhancement opportunities.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Health, Environmental, Safety & Security science or related field required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered.
Experience
  • Minimum 4 years of related experience required.
  • Experience gathering, documenting, validating, and communicating business requirements.
  • Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders, including business users and technical delivery teams.
  • Experience supporting system enhancements, user testing, implementation, or sustainment activities.


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience supporting refining, manufacturing, industrial, safety, operational excellence, or compliance-related systems.
  • Working knowledge of HESS programs, safety workflows, risk management processes, incident management, audits, action tracking, or related business processes.
  • Experience acting as a liaison between business teams and IT or Digital delivery resources.
  • Experience with project management basics, product ownership support, or continuous improvement methods.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint, Power BI, Microsoft Lists, requirements tools, workflow tools, or comparable business technology platforms.
  • Strong documentation, facilitation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
