Your Opportunity:

As a Team Lead, you will provide clinical leadership and support evidence-based, patient-and family-centred therapeutic recreation services within your assigned program area. You will support high-quality patient care by fostering collaborative team dynamics, promoting best practices, and ensuring alignment with Alberta Health Services policies, procedures, and therapeutic recreation standards of practice. In this role, you will provide leadership, mentorship, and clinical support to Recreation Therapists, Therapy Assistants, students, and volunteers while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient-centred care plans. You will support the assessment, treatment, education, and evaluation of therapeutic recreation interventions to achieve optimal outcomes for patients and families. You will contribute to program development and continuous improvement through the development and implementation of processes, protocols, documentation tools, education resources, and quality improvement activities. You will support the identification and management of therapy-related and operational risks, including patient and staff safety, while promoting innovation and effective service delivery. As a Team Lead, you will provide direct and indirect patient care while supporting communication, conflict resolution, and change management within the team. You will collaborate with internal and external partners to coordinate program-wide initiatives and strengthen services across the continuum of care. Through your clinical expertise and leadership, you will support patients and families in their rehabilitation journey by creating meaningful opportunities for engagement, participation, recreation, leisure, and overall well-being. Intermediate proficiency with computer and software applications, including Microsoft Office, Teams, and Connect Care, is required.

Description:

As a Recreation Therapist II, you will take a leadership role in ensuring that the level of therapeutic recreation practice in your clinical area is evidence based, patient-and family-centred and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will provide clinical leadership to ensure safe and efficient care as well as coordinate the assessment, treatment, education and care of the patient (client, resident). You will participate in program development to ensure effective delivery of services, including the development of protocols, forms, education, and quality improvement initiatives. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration for Professional Membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). Minimum three years' related clinical experience as a Recreation Therapist.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Ability to perform a high level of physical effort (60-70%) related to managing a clinical caseload. The therapist may be required to maintain prolonged standing, walking, lifting, bending, and/or twisting while facilitating therapeutic recreation interventions and assisting with client transfers. Ability to perform a high degree of concurrent mental effort (70-80%) is required for clinical decision-making, prioritization, problem-solving, and managing multiple responsibilities in a dynamic healthcare environment. Demonstrated knowledge and competency in therapeutic recreation standards of practice, evidence-informed care, assessment, client-centred treatment planning, outcome measurement, individual and group interventions, evaluation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and clinical documentation are required. An excellent attendance record, reliability, and personal suitability must be demonstrated through employment references. Demonstrated behaviours consistent with Alberta Health Services (AHS) values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Safety (CARES) are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a rehabilitation or clinical setting is an asset. Previous experience providing clinical leadership, mentorship, or support to Therapy Assistants, students, and volunteers is an asset. Experience with aquatic therapy is an asset. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) designation is an asset. Additional leadership education or training, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), BLS and other related professional development are considered assets.
