Your Role on the Expedition: This position will play a pivotal role in shaping the pricing and regulatory filing strategy for the company's countrywide travel insurance portfolio and associated commercial insurance programs. The Rate Development Manager will lead complex, multi-state rate development and filing initiatives while partnering closely with Product Development and Underwriting to deliver innovative, market-ready solutions for our partners. The position requires strong GLM modeling and ratemaking expertise, and the ability to apply rigorous actuarial analysis and first-principles to a specialized line of business. This position collaborates with leadership and stakeholders across the organization, may supervise other Actuarial staff, and reports to the VP, Product Development & Analytics.
Chart Your Course: - Own, manage, and continuously improve the end-to-end rate development and rate filing process.
- Lead ratemaking analyses, rate indications, experience studies, and GLM modeling to support the development and ongoing updates to the company's countrywide rate manuals.
- Develop rates for new coverages, perils, and programs, including offerings that may not currently exist in the market.
- Conduct, manage, and present dislocation and rate manual calibration analyses to support stakeholder alignment and stakeholder approval to file proposed rates and rate changes.
- Oversee the preparation of actuarial memoranda, exhibits, and rate manuals for 50-state filings.
- Manage filing timelines and communicate progress, risks, and mitigating solutions to stakeholders throughout the filing and approval process.
- Manage and enhance rating tools used by the Underwriting team to price new opportunities based on approved state rate manuals, including supporting documentation and training materials.
- Perform regular market and competitor intelligence analyses to inform the company's product development and pricing strategies
Your Ticket to Success: Requirements:
- Proven Insurance FP&A experience in Insurance.
- 8+ years of audit/financial reporting experience in the Insurance Industry.
- 5+ years in Finance related field.
- 5+ years of team management.
- Strong knowledge of cost control, budgeting, accounting, and finance principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Strong analytical thinking and a detail-oriented mindset.
- Strong technical skills including IFRS 17 and US GAAP?experience.
- Strong skills with managerial reporting (instead of statutory reporting).
- Strong skills with Power Point presentation and report creation (from excel cube base) are a must.
- Experience with multiple accounting and financial reporting systems.
Preferred:
- Public accounting (Big Four) and experience with multi-national publicly-traded company is a plus.
- Proficient with IFRS and NAIC (Association Insurance Commissioners) requirements.
- National US GAAP and local US reporting requirements are a plus.
Education/Certifications: - High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.
- B.A. or B.S. degree in finance/economics/accounting.
Position Coordinates: This is a hybrid role based out of our San Diego, CA office. As a hybrid role, you will be working onsite 2-3 days a week and working from home 2-3 days a week.
