About This Role:

The Radio Manager provides leadership and strategic direction for the County's Public Safety Radio team and is responsible for the day-to-day operation, reliability, modernization, and long-term planning of the County's radio communications environment.

This position serves as a key technology partner to Police, Fire and Rescue, Emergency Management, and other County organizations. The Radio Manager works closely with public safety leadership to understand operational requirements and translate those needs into effective communications solutions.

The role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic program management. Responsibilities include overseeing system operations and maintenance, responding to critical system issues, managing radio technicians and technical resources, coordinating with vendors and manufacturers, administering contracts, developing budgets, and planning the lifecycle replacement and modernization of critical infrastructure.

The Radio Manager will also lead significant capital projects designed to strengthen and modernize the County's public safety communications capabilities. Current and future initiatives may include:
  • Radio site and tower infrastructure improvements
  • Radio system redundancy and resiliency initiatives
  • Coverage improvement and in-building radio solutions
  • Subscriber radio and fleet management
  • Radio system monitoring and fault management
  • Emergency communications and backup systems
  • Interoperability initiatives with neighboring jurisdictions and regional partners
  • FCC licensing, frequency management, and regulatory compliance
  • Long-range capital planning and technology modernization

This position offers the opportunity to lead a technical team, work directly with public safety leaders, shape major infrastructure investments, and help define the future of public safety communications for one of Virginia's largest and fastest-growing communities.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or G.E.D. and 7 years of experience managing/leading technical teams.
Preferences:
  • 7 years supporting ASTRO P25 Radio Systems
  • 3 years managing technical projects
  • Experience with BDA/DAS systems
  • Experience supporting mission critical Public Safety systems

Special Requirements:
  • A background check is required, which includes a Criminal History Check and Credit History Check.
  • Police background investigation to include fingerprinting.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Work Schedule:

This position is classified as exempt with the expectation that the candidate will complete duties within the time frame required. After hours and weekend work are occasionally necessary to provide services that cannot be performed during normal business hours. Standard workweek is 37.5 hours, Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Self-directed as necessary to accomplish the mission through a combination of in-person, remote, and travel including occasional evenings and weekends. This is a telework eligible position that may revert to in-office scheduling if business needs change.
Starting Salary Range: $91,162.50 - $137,172.76
