Job Description:

The Radiation Therapist is part of the radiation oncology treatment team and works closely with the physics and dosimetry departments to deliver highly accurate doses of therapeutic radiation to patients as prescribed by the radiation oncologist. The Radiation Therapist's primary goal is to deliver radiation to the patient while assessing for changes, evaluating for accuracy, and effectively communicating with patients, caregivers, and teammates. The Radiation Therapist is required to maintain a high level of professionalism and excellence in patient care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs radiation therapy treatments as prescribed by the radiation oncologist.
  • Performs treatment simulations as ordered by the radiation oncologist.
  • Performs daily warm up and performance checks of simulation and treatment delivery equipment.
  • Schedules patient treatments.
  • Fabricates treatment devices for patient immobilization and beam shaping in accordance with patient treatment plans.
  • Performs new start, weekly, and adaptive plan checks.
  • Documents all aspects of patient care and communications with accuracy in the appropriate clinical application and patient record.
  • Accurately registers patient films for physician review.
  • Reports appropriate charges for services provided to patients.
  • Promotes the safety of patients and team members, performing routine disinfection procedures of treatment devices, equipment, and high-contact surfaces, and promptly reporting incidents and unsafe conditions.
  • Participates in the quality/process improvement process.
  • Interacts in an open, cooperative manner with all co-workers to create a positive work climate and promotes high-level professionalism in delivering patient care.
  • Promotes positive patient experience, encouraging patients and involved caregivers to participate in patient satisfaction surveys.
  • Exercises problem-solving and conflict resolution skills when handling patient complaints; refers patient complaints to appropriate designated personnel as needed.
  • Functions as a preceptor to newly hired staff.
  • Adheres to all Tennessee Oncology policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Certified as a Radiation Therapist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).

*Candidates who are eligible for ARRT Radiation Therapist examination will be considered with continued employment contingent on obtaining ARRT certification within 6 months of hire date.
