Job Duties: Lead the development and qualification efforts of medical device technologies assembly lines to meet cost, quality and performance targets. Collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to drive product and process solutions to market. Provide technical support to drive development, qualification and stabilization execution. Apply Design for Manufacturing & Assembly techniques, Lean Six Sigma process knowledge, and the Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) tools to drive product design to its most efficient outcome. Apply engineering principles to resolve technical challenges, and leverage project management practices to drive a complex project portfolio. Write Protocols and Completion Reports in compliance with FDA regulations that withstand audit scrutiny. Develop and maintain manufacturing line including troubleshooting and solving critical issues to optimize scrap and efficiency. Leverage mechanical skills related to working with machine shops. Use CAD (Computer Aided Design) to create drawings and relate ideas to the machine shop for manufacturing of production parts. Leverage PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) related to the qualification and validation of software systems, to troubleshoot and document issues for software fixes. Qualify Vision Systems used in manufacturing, and implement best practices to ensure the Vision Systems work correctly and reliably. Travel internationally to provide assembly and test equipment development, startup, and launch support outside the US (primarily Mexico). Train on-site engineers, technicians, and operators on equipment function and troubleshooting.
May work at various unanticipated locations throughout U.S., including El Paso, TX. 30% travel required (domestic and international, primarily Mexico).
Requirements: Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, or Industrial), Control Systems and Software, or related field and 7 years of experience in the job offered or in a R&D Staff Engineer, Equipment Development-related occupation.
Position requires experience with:
1. Manufacturing systems, and manufacturing process development and operations in a medical device production environment;
2. Hardware and software for manufacturing test systems;
3. Developing and validating manual and automated assembly equipment;
4. Using statistical analysis techniques and Design of Experiments, and applying gauging techniques and subsequent Measurement Systems Analyses;
5. Leading equipment development with an external equipment supplier;
6. Troubleshooting manufacturing related mechanical, electrical, and software issues; and
7. Implementing manufacturing process improvements and driving efficiency.
