Your role and responsibilities

As a Senior Research Scientist: Quantum Applications & Information Theory, you will perform research covering a broad array of topics in Quantum computing and information theory, requiring expertise in areas such as Quantum information processing with superconducting circuits and algorithms and complexity theory. Your work will have a real impact on IBM Products and Services through individual contributions and/or contributions of the team(s) / Challenge(s) led.

Your primary responsibilities will include:
Lead Research Initiatives: Perform research in Quantum computing and information theory, covering topics such as Quantum information processing with superconducting circuits, algorithms and complexity theory, and verification and validation of Quantum systems.
Drive Technical Strategy: Influence the functional & IBM strategy, with a deep understanding of organizational resources, priorities, needs, and policies, and contribute to making complex strategic decisions that require deep technical knowledge.
Mentor and Collaborate: Mentor multiple people inside and outside the organization in both technical and career capacities, and initiate & build new relationships with technical or business leaders.
Advance Quantum Computing: Develop expertise in areas such as theory of superconducting circuits, condensed matter theory, error correction, and fault-tolerance for realizing large-scale quantum computation.
Foster Innovation: Contribute to the development of new ideas and solutions, applying expertise in Quantum computing and information theory to drive innovation and growth.

Deep Expertise in Quantum Computing: Experience with quantum information processing, superconducting circuits, algorithms, and complexity theory, with the ability to apply this knowledge to drive innovation and growth.
Advanced Research Skills: Certification in or experience with verification and validation of Quantum systems, communication theory, and fundamental limits in information processing.
Technical Leadership: Experience in leading research initiatives and driving technical strategy, with a deep understanding of organizational resources, priorities, needs, and policies.
Expertise in Condensed Matter Theory: Experience with theory of superconducting circuits, condensed matter theory, error correction, and fault-tolerance for realizing large-scale quantum computation.
Strategic Decision-Making: Experience in making complex strategic decisions that require deep technical knowledge, with the ability to mentor and collaborate with technical and business leaders.

Condensed Matter Expertise: Experience with theory of superconducting circuits, condensed matter theory, error correction, and fault-tolerance for realizing large-scale quantum computation.

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
