POSITION SUMMARYTimber Products is looking for an experienced Quality Manager to lead and manage the quality assurance program for Medford Plywood. Ensures standardization of process/quality control platforms and quality performance metrics. Responsible for the development of continuous improvement systems in safety, quality, yield, value, cost and productivity performance. Achieves results by working closely with Timber Products Technical Director, manufacturing and sales staff, as well as customers and vendors.
MAJOR TASKS- Develops the plant quality team in conjunction with plant management.
- Complies with all safety requirements as well as acts as an example of safe practices on a consistent basis.
- Determines departmental project plans and implementation schedules. Manages the progress of projects to ensure implementation deadlines are met.
- Works closely with Engineering staff regarding process controls and quality assurance.
- Guides the development of continuous improvement systems in safety, quality, yield, value, cost and productivity performance.
- Leads and influences all levels of Timber Products staff to achieve results. Works closely with the manufacturing team in optimizing plant processes and specifications.
- Reviews and analyzes customer claims to determine cause.
- Performs root cause analysis and determines corrective actions to reduce internal/external quality escapes. Documents and communicates observations and resolutions.
- Ensures proper measurement techniques and establish testing procedures to determine finished product conformance to specifications.
- Ensures products meet structural, safety, and environmental standards. Maintains required certifications.
- Travels to interface with customers and to other TP Manufacturing facilities when needed.
- Manages QA data entry activities and maintains filing system.
- Coordinates third-party audits, testing, and calibration. Develops and manages assigned projects.
Skills & Requirements SKILL REQUIREMENTS - Bachelor's degree in Wood Products, industrial management, engineering or closely related field with a minimum of 5 years' experience in process engineering, quality management, continuous improvement, industrial engineering, or industrial management; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Must have the ability to interact with others in a professional manner to address and resolve qualify issues and present information.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including statistical quality engineering, inspection, auditing, calibration, and data analysis techniques required.
- Intermediate to advanced competency in statistics (SPC).
- Proficiency in the use of office software required: spreadsheet, database, word processing and presentation software. Software programming language experience is a plus.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects to meet schedule/project requirements.
- Ability to work flexible hours and days as needed to complete required job responsibilities.
