Quality Manager

Goshen Engineering
Location:
Mount Olive, NC
Job Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Quality Manager to lead the development, implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of our company-wide quality management system based on ISO 9001 principles. This role is ideal for someone who can build disciplined, practical quality systems while staying close to production, inspections, customer issues, supplier performance, warranty matters, and field service.

Reporting to the President, you'll direct quality assurance and quality control activities for custom switchboards, integrated power distribution systems, automation solutions, and related field service work. You'll supervise and develop quality technicians and assigned field service repair personnel while partnering with engineering, manufacturing, project management, and operations.

You'll also serve as the company's quality leader and primary point of contact for customer quality concerns, warranty matters, audits, and quality performance improvement. As Goshen Engineering continues to grow, you'll help strengthen quality planning, inspection and testing, corrective action, supplier quality, documentation, and continuous improvement within a high-mix, engineer-to-order manufacturing environment.

We're looking for someone who takes ownership, exercises sound technical judgment, communicates clearly, develops others, and is comfortable moving between quality-system leadership and hands-on problem-solving.

What You'll Do

  • Develop, implement, maintain, and continually improve the company's formal quality management and quality assurance system based on ISO 9001 principles, including policies, procedures, work instructions, forms, inspection and test plans, and record-keeping practices.
  • Establish quality objectives, performance measures, and reporting processes; analyze trends and communicate quality risks, priorities, and recommended actions to leadership.
  • Supervise, coach, schedule, and develop quality technicians and assigned field service repair personnel.
  • Partner with engineering, manufacturing, project management, and operations to develop project-specific quality plans, acceptance criteria, inspection checklists, and test documentation; identify product and process risks; define critical-to-quality requirements; and ensure appropriate inspection, testing, and process controls are incorporated into production.
  • Establish and maintain measurement and inspection equipment controls, including calibration, traceability, and appropriate measurement methods.
  • Establish and oversee receiving, in-process, final, and field inspection processes, including the control and disposition of nonconforming material and product.
  • Lead containment, root-cause analysis, corrective action, and verification of effectiveness for internal, customer, supplier, warranty, and field quality issues.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customer quality concerns, warranty requests, field service requests, and customer quality reviews; coordinate timely resolution through closure.
  • Work directly with customers to define and document quality requirements for new products, projects, and systems.
  • Coordinate supplier qualification and supplier quality activities, including vendor assessments, inspections, corrective actions, and performance follow-up.
  • Plan and conduct internal quality audits and support customer, supplier, and third-party audits or assessments.
  • Maintain complete and accurate quality records, inspection and test results, project documentation, warranty records, and customer correspondence.
  • Champion 5S, waste reduction, process standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives that improve quality, production efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Exercise sound technical judgment in resolving manufacturing quality issues, escalate significant risks to leadership, maintain confidentiality, and perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field.
  • Ten or more years of progressively responsible quality, manufacturing, or engineering experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities, preferably in the automotive, aerospace, pharmaceutical, or electrical switchgear industries.
  • Experience working within an ISO 9001-certified, AS9100, IATF 16949, or similarly rigorous quality management system, including developing, implementing, or significantly improving quality management systems, preferably in a highly engineered manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using structured quality tools such as PFMEA, control plans, 8D/root-cause analysis, CAPA, and First Article Inspection (FAI) to prevent and resolve product and process quality issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to build or significantly improve quality systems and processes, applying disciplined automotive or aerospace quality practices in a practical way appropriate for a high-mix, engineer-to-order manufacturing environment.
  • Experience developing quality control plans, inspection and test procedures, process documentation, forms, and record-keeping systems.
  • Experience leading nonconformance management, root-cause analysis, corrective action, verification of effectiveness, and audit activities.
  • Strong understanding of quality management systems, quality assurance and control practices, inspection and testing, calibration, auditing, and document control.
  • Ability to analyze quality data, identify meaningful trends, establish priorities, and recommend practical actions.
  • Strong technical judgment, critical thinking, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong engineering documentation, customer communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, accountability, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced, project-based environment.
  • Commitment to integrity, safety, 5S, continuous improvement, process efficiency, and accurate, timely work.
  • Ability to satisfy applicable work authorization, export-control, customer, and contractual requirements and to travel or work additional hours occasionally for inspections, audits, warranty matters, field service, customer visits, or supplier qualifications.
  • Ability to work in office, manufacturing, and occasional customer, supplier, or field environments; sit, stand, and walk for extended periods; bend and reach for inspections; and occasionally lift or move inspection equipment, records, or components.
  • Experience implementing a quality management system as a first-time or major company-wide initiative is preferred.
  • ASQ quality certification, Six Sigma certification, or ISO 9001 internal or lead auditor training is preferred.
  • Experience with supplier quality, customer audits, warranty management, and field service operations is preferred.
