Your Role on the Team
Position Summary:
The Quality Improvement Specialist, Heart and Vascular supports clinical quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement activities across the Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI). Reporting into HVI leadership, this role oversees the abstraction, validation, and submission of clinical quality registry data, including STS and CCORP, working with internal and external abstraction resources to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and timely reporting. The position analyzes clinical and operational data to develop actionable insights, dashboards, and reports; supports multidisciplinary quality improvement initiatives; coordinates HVI quality and patient safety committee activities; and collaborates with physicians, clinical leaders, and administrative teams to identify opportunities and improve outcomes. The role also supports compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements and contributes to education related to quality improvement and patient safety.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required Qualifications:
Working knowledge of statistics Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite applications with emphasis on Excel and Viseo Strong analytical skills to effectively comprehend complex system reports and analyze an array into an actionable form Resourcefulness to identify and search for information that is not readily available Previous experience or exposure to quality, patient safety, infection control, or performance improvement methodologies (includes educational experience if applicable) Previous experience creating, maintaining, and extracting information from a variety of databases Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties Must demonstrate meticulous attention to accuracy with data collection and reporting Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job Minimum 2 years clinical RN experience Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English Excellent interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively with physicians, managers and high-level administrative staff as well as support staff who are critical to departmental functions Current California RN license Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Public Health, Pharmacy, Business, Administration or related field Ability to prioritize and contribute to simultaneous projects and facilitate teamwork among project staff / participants Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in operational transactions and communications Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience working with cardiology, cardiac or vascular surgery clinical quality registries Master's Degree
