Full Job Description
The Quality Engineer supports Standard Nuclear's quality management system by ensuring manufacturing processes, materials, and products meet internal and regulatory quality standards. This role works closely with manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain teams to implement quality controls, investigate nonconformances, and drive continuous improvement across production operations.

This is a hands-on engineering role within a regulated manufacturing environment. The Quality Engineer supports inspection and verification activities while leading root cause analysis, corrective actions, and process improvements to strengthen product quality and operational reliability. The role contributes to maintaining compliance with NQA-1 and other applicable regulatory and industry quality standards while helping scale manufacturing operations safely and efficiently.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Quality Engineering & Process Improvement
  • Develop and implement quality controls to ensure manufacturing processes consistently meet product specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead root cause investigations for nonconformances, process deviations, and quality events.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and verify effectiveness.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen manufacturing quality, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to improve processes, documentation, and inspection methods.
  • Support new product introduction and process development by integrating quality requirements into production workflows.


Inspection & Verification
  • Support receiving, in-process, and final inspections of materials, components, and assemblies.
  • Verify that manufacturing work is performed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and procedures.
  • Review inspection results and evaluate nonconformances for disposition.
  • Support calibration and maintenance of inspection tools and measuring equipment.


Supplier Quality & Material Verification
  • Assist with supplier quality activities including review of material certifications, inspection reports, and supplier documentation.
  • Support supplier qualification, evaluation, and corrective action activities.
  • Coordinate with procurement and engineering teams to ensure supplied materials meet technical and quality requirements.


Quality Systems & Documentation
  • Maintain quality documentation, inspection records, and traceability in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Support document control programs and ensure procedures, forms, and work instructions remain current.
  • Assist with development and improvement of quality procedures and manufacturing documentation.


Audits & Regulatory Compliance
  • Support internal audits, external audits, and quality system assessments.
  • Participate in corrective action reviews and follow-up verification.
  • Help maintain compliance with NQA-1 quality requirements and applicable DOE and NRC regulatory frameworks.
  • Support audit readiness and quality program implementation as manufacturing operations scale.


SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in quality engineering, quality assurance, or manufacturing engineering within an industrial or regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with quality systems such as NQA-1, ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar regulated standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis using structured methods such as 5 Whys, Fishbone, or similar tools.
  • Hands-on experience with inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, or other measurement equipment.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain teams.
  • Experience working in nuclear, aerospace, defense, energy, or other regulated industries is a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role is based on-site in Idaho Falls, ID and supports work across office, laboratory, and manufacturing environments.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

The Quality Engineer will spend time both at a workstation and on the manufacturing floor, working directly with production, engineering, and quality teams to review processes, investigate quality issues, verify product conformance, and support corrective actions. The position may require standing for extended periods, handling parts or inspection equipment, and wearing required personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, lab coats, or other site-specific PPE. Work may occasionally occur in controlled or radiological areas in accordance with site procedures and training requirements.
