Quality Engineer - Micro-CT Metrology

Req Id: 2249

State/Province: Arizona

Business: Gore Medical Products

Category: Engineering, Scientists & Technicians

Sub-Category: Engineering

Work Arrangement: On-site

Posting Start Date: 9/15/26

Posting End Date: 9/29/26

About the Role

We are looking for a Quality Engineer - Micro-CT Metrology to join our Metals R&D team. In this role, you will operate state-of-the-art industrial Micro-CT (Micro Computed Tomography) scanning systems and generate output data that meets or exceeds the project team's expectations. In this role, you will be responsible for failure investigations, first article inspections, and R&D design evaluations, directly impacting the success of critical projects within Gore Medical. This position requires collaboration with a wide range of subject matter experts and project team members to develop evaluation methods that push the state-of-the-art in CT scanning and Digital Radiography techniques. The expert use of various software tools will allow you to build 3D representations of complex internal and external structures and perform defect detection and accurate measurement of complex 3D geometries.

This role will be located at our facility in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently operate high-resolution industrial CT scanning systems or other metrology equipment (e.g., micro-CT, Visicon, etc).
  • Determine optimal scan parameters (voltage, current, exposure, filters, voxel size) based on material density, geometry, and required resolution to minimize artifacts and maximize data quality
  • Design and fabricate custom, low-density fixtures to position complex prototype parts securely without interfering with X-ray penetration
  • Perform full 3D inspections and compare CT volume data against nominal CAD models using advanced analysis software (e.g., Volume Graphics VGStudio MAX, Polyworks, Simpleware, etc)
  • Evaluate complex geometric features, including wall thickness, porosity, fiber orientation, and part-to-CAD variances using strict GD&T principles
  • Create comprehensive, visually intuitive metrology and inspection reports for design and quality engineering teams to accelerate product iterations
  • Perform non-destructive root-cause analysis on failed prototypes or test samples to detect internal voids, cracks, assembly defects, or material delamination
  • Perform routine calibration, daily system checks, and preventative maintenance on X-ray tubes, detectors, and motion systems. Coordinate with equipment vendors for advanced maintenance needs, as needed
  • When needed, manage operations for an industrial CT lab, including scheduling of internal CT lab capacity, tracking of appropriate metrics, and managing relationships with project team customers
  • Maintain the lab data storage infrastructure necessary for archiving of scan data and electronic records detailing methods and techniques used in each request

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in an applicable technical field (e.g. Mechanical Engineer, Physics, Computer Science, etc)
  • A minimum of 3 years of Industrial CT scanning and data analysis experience
  • A minimum of 2 years experience with SolidWorks CAD modeling for rapid fixture development
  • Proficiency using CT data analysis software, such as Volume Graphics, Polyworks, ImageJ, Simpleware, Grasshopper, or similar
  • Proficiency using statistical analysis software, such as JMP, Minitab, etc
  • Proficiency writing and implementing reports within a medical device manufacturer quality system
  • Demonstrated history of providing excellent customer service through strong verbal communication and emotional intelligence
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude with physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs, stand for extended periods, and reach into an X-Ray enclosure
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Desired Qualifications

  • ASNT NDT Level II Certification
  • Six Sigma Black Belt Certification
  • Experience leading small technical teams
