Quality Assurance Manager

Job Description

Role Overview

This position is responsible for maintaining a division-wide, IATF16949 and ISO9001 compliant business management system, to assure that all products manufactured meet customer and company specifications and achieve superior quality and reliability levels. Business systems will mirror and comply with the Corporation's objectives, external regulations and guidelines as well as customer contracts, specifications and general quality requirements.

This position is charged with ensuring all the Quality Assurance Systems are fully implemented and monitored and the Quality Control Procedure and Practice are standardized and followed. This role is responsible for the ongoing analytical assessment of all materials, certification of their performance to customers, management of the IATF program and related Quality Control program and staff.

This role is the Quality expert for the location. Hence, is responsible for staffing and training of personnel in QA/QC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures that product quality is maintained through application of analytical test protocols on constituent materials.
  • Leads the process of inspection of products to proactively disposition product to ensure qualified materials are available to production.
  • Ensure plans, programs and analytical chemistry capabilities are linked with and support the overall objectives of the Quality organization.
  • Identifies and reports quality problems or trends based on SPC data.
  • Recommends or implements the appropriate corrective action to quality problems, with the aid of Manufacturing, Engineering, Product Development, Purchasing, etc.
  • Apply problem solving techniques (8D, 5-Why, FMEA, GR&R, etc.) and advanced statistical methods.
  • Supports the ongoing implementation and continuous improvements to ERP system.
  • Reviews all documentation related to product quality, such as test procedures and operation sheets, and approves as appropriate to ensure product quality.
  • Generates or implements defect-reduction activities.
  • Writes necessary quality plans, PPAP's, procedures, work instructions and related quality system documentation.
  • Is the liaison with R&D for new product implementation, current modifications and analytical procedure and equipment developments.


Dimensions

  • Overall leadership responsibility for the IATF/ISO9001 Quality Management System and the Quality Control function that is charged with the inspection of raw, in process and final inspection of the division's products at two locations.
  • This is a highly visible and dynamic position requiring strong leadership and facilitation skills to balance multiple priorities in a highly matrix/team based organization.
  • This position reports to the Global Director of Quality & EHS.


Relationships

Internal

  • Position plays a key role in establishing the drum beat for production based on material testing and reporting.


External

  • Position will engage with customers and suppliers on special projects and/or failure analysis by providing detailed analytical analysis and requisite reports.


Knowledge and Experience

  • Domain knowledge in analytical chemistry is desirable.
  • Minimum of five years of IATF 16949 experience in a manufacturing setting is required.
  • At least five years experience leading the QA/QC function in a laboratory environment is desired.
  • Ability to lead a diverse team of quality technicians and engineers while balancing the needs of production/process support.
  • Expert skills in Minitab is desired.


Education

  • BS in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry is desired.
