Job Description
The Quality Assurance Manager leads all quality functions to ensure compliance, product integrity, and continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment. This role oversees QC, QE, QMS, and FAI activities while driving corrective actions, reducing defects, and managing supplier and customer quality. The position partners cross-functionally to integrate quality into processes and support operational and business goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all quality functions, including:
- Quality Control (inspection, CMM programming, lab operations)
- Quality Engineering (RCCA, supplier quality, customer quality, MRB)
- QMS Management (audits, document control, system effectiveness)
- First Article Inspection (FAI / AS9102 package completion)
- Establish and drive the company's quality strategy aligned with operational and financial goals
- Develop, monitor, and improve key quality metrics (PPM, scrap, rework, COPQ, audit performance, FAI turnaround)
- Ensure effective root cause analysis and corrective action processes are implemented and sustained
- Oversee supplier quality performance, including issue resolution and escalation
- Ensure timely and high-quality responses to customer quality issues and maintain strong customer confidence
- Drive reduction of internal defects and variation through data-driven process improvements
- Ensure the Quality Management System is compliant, effective, and actively used by the organization
- Lead internal and external audit activities and maintain certification requirements
- Improve efficiency and throughput of inspection and FAI processes to support production flow
- Serve as the escalation point for critical quality issues impacting customers or operations
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure quality is built into processes during NPI and production
Required Skills
- Strong leadership capability with experience managing multiple quality functions (QC, QE, QMS, FAI)
- Deep understanding of quality systems (AS9100 / ISO 9001) and ability to ensure practical, effective implementation
- Proven root cause and corrective action expertise (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone) with a track record of reducing repeat issues
- Solid knowledge of manufacturing processes, preferably CNC machining and high-mix/low-volume environments
- Strong working knowledge of GD&T, inspection methods, and metrology systems (including CMM)
- Ability to analyze quality data and drive improvements in PPM, scrap, rework, and overall cost of poor quality
- Experience managing supplier quality issues and driving corrective actions with external vendors
- Strong customer-facing skills, including handling complaints, RMAs, and formal responses (8D, SCAR)
- Ability to balance compliance with operational efficiency (avoid over-inspection, build practical systems) Effective cross-functional communication and problem-solving skills with Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain
Education / Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
- 7+ years of experience in quality within a manufacturing environment
- 3+ years of leadership experience managing quality teams or multiple quality functions
- Experience in semiconductor and medical industries preferred
- Strong familiarity with ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 standards
- Background in CNC machining or precision manufacturing strongly preferred
- Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) preferred
