  • Coordinate dimensional evaluation and conduct Gauge Accuracy studies.

Full Job Description
Compensation Range:$77,000 up to $89,000 annually

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer will ensure the quality of finished goods and first article/PPAP packages in preparation for shipping to customers. Act as a Champion and participate in customer, supplier, and internal corrective action process, continuous improvement initiatives while adhering to the responsibilities outlined in the Quality Management System.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support all departments in First Article / PPAP data collection and submission, new launch capability studies as well as any additional support as requested.
  • Responsible for compiling PPAP and First Article submission documentation on assigned programs.
  • Participate in the APQP process to ensure: feasibility of the design and process to produce the product as specified.
  • Address any quality issues, including GD&T, gauge design, testing requirements and timing, capability study requirements and timing, applied statistical methods, and Advanced Quality Plans (such as prototype, pre-launch, and production control plans, etc.).
  • Recommend designation of KPC's, KCC's
  • Support and participate in APQP activities and trials (such as packaging trials, paint/process trials, etc.) as required.
  • Participate as required in cross-functional team activities.
  • Participate or Champion customer, internal, and supplier corrective and preventive actions.
  • Carry out receiving inspection on new / problem product and recommend additions and deletions from the receiving inspection list.
  • File, preserve, and dispose of various Quality Records.
  • Coordinate and participate in dimensional evaluation of parts using appropriate gauges and fixtures, including SPC studies.

  • Coordinate and participate in Gauge Accuracy, Repeatability and Reproducibility Studies.
  • Perform process capability and process performance (KCC) studies and data collection. Report results on the appropriate statistical charts.
  • Train operators and quality inspectors to perform in-process inspections on new parts as required.
  • Carry out dock audits as required.
  • Interact with customers and suppliers as required to carry out requirements and expectations.
  • Perform daily layered audits.

  • Carry out other tasks as assigned by the Quality Manager and Quality Supervisor.
  • Support all QCI facilities as required (travel required between plants)

  • Maintains the ISO 9000 system
  • Participate in the Internal Audit process.
  • Collects and reports KPI data - All QCI facilities.
  • Completes ISO procedure revisions.
  • Reviews Internal and External NCRs. Arranges NCR follow-up meetings.
  • Maintains and reports Rework and Scrap analysis.
  • Maintains and organizes calibration of Equipment and Gauges. - All QCI facilities.
  • Follows and complies with all Operational Procedures and policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Quality and Environment programs (i.e. IATF, ISO 14001)
  • Other duties as may be assigned.


Educational Requirements:

  • University degree and/or post-secondary education in a related discipline or equivalent experience.


Required Skills & Expertise:

  • 2- 5 years of experience in quality control or engineering in Metal Fabrication/Welding or a similar industry

  • Knowledge of welding inspection, identification of defects, and non-destructive/destructive testing.
  • A thorough knowledge of the product development and steel fabrication processes.
  • Extensive knowledge in the principles and practice of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and small progressive manufacturing disciplines.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents (Blueprints, specifications, etc.).
  • Excellent planner and implementer with the ability to make things happen.
  • Ability to promote a culture of innovation and keep employees positively motivated.
  • Excellent command of the English language, verbal and written,
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office - MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Capable of managing multiple challenging assignments concurrently; moving swiftly and decisively, but collaboratively and effectively with others.
