Job Overview

Oversee the procurement of global on time delivery of all materials such as raw tubing, castings, forgings, fabrications, machined parts, gears, and subcontract operations on proprietary designed fabrications and machined components required to support production at SHBU. These activities must support the division's mission of meeting or exceeding our customers' expectations related to quality, cost, and delivery. Develops, coordinates and implements procedures and electronic systems supporting and improving purchasing and materials management activities.

Manages a minimum of ten (10) employees (Buyers, Purchasing Technicians, and Expeditors).

Responsible for procurement and inventory management of 30,000 items.

Responsible for maintenance of 12,000 currently open order lines.

Responsible for maintenance of e-commerce applications for 300 to 400 production suppliers.

Provides systems and procedure training for Purchasing Department members and suppliers.
• This position requires working on site five days per week.
• Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, motivate, and supervise the workgroup to meet or exceed quality, cost, and delivery objectives, as well as maintain inventory level objectives.
  • Create and cultivate strong relationships with suppliers and ensure compliance with quality standards and delivery timelines. Monitor and participate in the selection and development of reliable, cost effective, quality suppliers for assigned commodities.
  • Mitigate risks from supply-chain disruptions, by ensuring supply orders are placed and expedited in a timely manner to provide on-time delivery while maintaining inventory level objectives.
  • Ensure that the ERP system (and related applications) is implemented in a procedural manner to support purchasing objectives.
  • Establishing and maintaining clear purchasing guidelines and procedures for our work group.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Supplier Performance metrics related to quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor programs for continuous improvement in quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Recover scrap and rework expenses caused by non-conforming materials, from suppliers.
  • Reconcile accounts payable discrepancies (due to pricing, freight, receiving, or other factors) to faciliate payments (or debits) to suppliers.
  • Provide internal and external trainig related to electronic purchasing systems (i.e. e-commerce, BAAN-current ERP system).


Qualifications/Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Business Administration, Industrial Management, Engineering, and Eight or more years' experience in Production and Inventory Control, Materials Management, Purchasing, in the Mining Industry related to castings, forgings, fabrications, machined parts, gears, etc.
  • Knowledge of procurement software, ERP systems, inventory management, and logistics.
  • Basic understanding of technology involved in producing assigned commodities (forgings, castings, fabrications, and machined components).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of production control, sourcing, and basic cost accounting principles.
  • Basic understanding of value engineering as related to cost reduction activities.
  • Effective communicator - written and verbal.
  • Effective negotiator.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes remote or rugged environment.

Additional Information

Preferred but not required:
  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM).
  • Willingness to travel to mine sites, vendor facilities, or regional offices as needed.


Hiring Range

At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $105,600 - $132,000. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
