Job Summary

The Adult Pulmonary Function Testing Lab is seeking a full-time Pulmonary Technologist to perform diagnostic activities with diverse patient populations.

Responsibilities*
  • Perform pulmonary function and exercise testing according to current best practices at all current sites.
  • Prepare and maintain pulmonary function testing equipment prior to patient testing.
  • Follow infection prevention and safety procedures as required by the organizational policies and The Joint Commission (TJC).
  • Administer medication pertinent to pulmonary diagnostic evaluations.
  • Communicate pertinent observations of patient status to unit leadership, medical director, and/or patient?s provider.
  • Perform quality control/quality assurance tasks, including daily calibrations and syringe verifications, and periodic linearity and simulation studies.
  • Assist support teams and vendors with hardware and software troubleshooting and repair.
  • Stock and maintain designated areas in compliance with TJC.
  • Maintain adequate compressed gas cylinder storage. Exchange gas cylinders for patients and equipment when needed.
  • Follow department procedures for correct medical record entries.
  • Complete required organizational mandatory learnings and department?s continuing education requirements.
  • Prepare written documentation as requested by providers or research staff.
  • Learning new clinical protocols and equipment when implemented by the department.
  • Improvise diagnostic approach to unique patient situations.
  • Assist with new staff onboarding.
  • Provide staffing support for Pulmonary Rehabilitation (if applicable) and other units as needed.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, dependability, work well under pressure, and be able to handle ambiguous clinical situations.

Required Qualifications*
  • Associates degree or NBRC minimum eligibility criteria for CPFT/RPFT exam

Desired Qualifications*
  • Bachelor?s degree with a concentration in respiratory therapy, human physiology, kinesiology, exercise physiology or biology (latter with pre-medical curriculum).
  • Education eligibility to take National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) exam as Certified or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT/RPFT) upon hire. NBRC requires a minimum of an Associate?s degree (or a minimum of 62 semester hours of college credit), including at least 3.0 credit hours each in Biology and Mathematics.
  • Certification as a CPFT or RPFT within one year of hire
  • Three months of experience in a clinical role in a healthcare setting

University Hospital and Taubman Center initially. Possibility of rotating to satellite clinic sites.
