Job Description
This position reports to the Engineering Operations Manager and is responsible for overseeing all of Public Works capital projects for the city.
Examples of Work

  • Authorizes and monitors the work of engineering consultants engaged in the design of Capital Improvement projects.
  • Supervises all assigned staff.
  • Reviews, evaluates and approves master schedule of all Public Works capital projects.
  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously in various phases of development including scope preparation, consultant selection, design management, permitting, cost estimating, right-of-way acquisition, and preparation of construction documents.
  • Prepares reports, spreadsheets and other necessary documents for reporting progress on all Public Works capital projects.
  • Reviews, evaluates and resolves disputes and change order requests.
  • Monitors expenses and budgets. Updates project tracking spreadsheets.
  • Meets financial objectives by forecasting requirements, analyzing variances and initiating corrective action.
  • Ensures that quality standards are met.
  • Participates in management meetings intended to resolve issues.
  • Assigns responsibility, takes corrective action demonstrates leadership and evaluates, develops, and motivates employees.
  • Supervises with facts, focuses on results, provides clear direction, and encourages innovation.

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering or architecture.
  • Five (5) years of experience in project management - required.
  • Experience working on public sector or government funded infrastructure projects - preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
  • Must be a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Florida or, if registered as a Professional Engineer in another state, must secure Florida registration within one (1) year of appointment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license during employment in this class.
  • Must qualify for, obtain and maintain a City of Jacksonville public driver certification.
