PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATOR ADMINISTRATOR

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the administration and supervision of the operations of the Communications Division. This position reports to the Emergency Services Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Performs a variety of management duties, including collaborating on budgetary processes and overseeing the daily operations of the Emergency Communications Center.
  • Discusses, develops, and implements policies and standard operating procedures for the division in coordination with other Public Safety divisions and City departments.
  • Administers the selection, installation, maintenance, and repair of communications equipment.
  • Exercises direct supervision over assigned personnel, including hiring and promotional processes.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent; three (3) to five (5) years' experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications:

  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center and National Crime Information Center certification within six months of employment.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the operations, activities, purposes, and procedures of the Division.
  • Knowledge of various radio and multi-line telephone systems and their infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software systems, including CAD, call-taking, and radio system interface systems.
  • Knowledge of City streets and geography.
  • Knowledge of purchasing and budgeting procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal Communications Commission regulations and licensing.
  • Knowledge of relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Knowledge of local government operations, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar programs.
  • Skill in the selection, training, scheduling, and supervision of personnel.
  • Skill in using logical and creative thought processes to make decisions and develop solutions in stressful situations.
  • Skill in making decisions in stressful situations.
  • Skill in using computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
  • Skill in the use of small office equipment, including calculators, copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
