Job Duties

** This position requires participation in the MOD second on-call coverage. **

Central State Hospital is recruiting for a Psychiatrist to provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, treatment, and ongoing clinical care for patients with complex behavioral health needs. The Psychiatrist will lead an interdisciplinary treatment team and ensure that patient care is delivered in accordance with established standards of care, hospital policies, and applicable state and federal regulations. Responsibilities include developing and revising individualized treatment plans; prescribing and monitoring medications, including obtaining informed consent and addressing adverse effects; completing timely and accurate medical and psychiatric documentation; participating in admission evaluations, court proceedings, on-call coverage, and discharge planning; and collaborating with patients, families, community services boards, nursing, psychology, social work, rehabilitation, and other treatment professionals to promote recovery and timely discharge. The Psychiatrist will also support patient safety and seclusion/restraint reduction efforts, participate in quality improvement and Medical Staff activities, maintain required licensure, DEA registration, CME, and training requirements, and demonstrate professionalism, accountability, respect, empathy, and a commitment to patient-centered, recovery-oriented care.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required to Successfully Perform the Job:

- Demonstrated proficiency in conducting comprehensive clinical evaluations and examinations, maintaining accurate and thorough documentation, and applying sound diagnostic skills in the treatment and management of psychiatric and medical conditions.
- Working knowledge of current psychiatric and medical treatment modalities, standards of care, and evidence-based best practices.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly, accurately, and concisely document in the medical record and effectively communicate with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and professionally within interdisciplinary treatment teams.

Typical Work Schedule: M-F 8:00 am to 5:00 pm or (4) 10.5 hour days

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree and successful completion of an accredited or approved residency training program in Psychiatry.
- Possession of a valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Board certification or board eligibility in Psychiatry.
- Possession of a current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
