Job Summary

The Intensive Outpatient Clinic (IOC) is looking for a therapist to join a close-knit, interdisciplinary team. We provide insurance-covered, wraparound care for adults whose mental health needs intersect with medical, substance-use, and social challenges.

This role is open to licensed mental health clinicians, including social workers, clinical mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, art therapists with qualifying clinical credentials, and other licensed providers whose primary practice is psychotherapy. This is a therapy-forward role-not a traditional case-management position.

You will carry an outpatient therapy caseload while working alongside physicians, psychiatry, nursing, pharmacy, and care-coordination partners to help patients make meaningful progress.

The IOC is one of six clinics within the Population Health Center. It is both a place of care and a place where we build better ways of caring for vulnerable populations. In the coming year, the team will emphasize defined clinical outcomes. This provider will help advance that work by delivering high-quality therapy, participating in interdisciplinary care planning, and using patient outcomes to strengthen a model centered on recovery, independence, and more effective use of care.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions
• Provide individual psychotherapy using evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, and trauma-informed care.
• Complete comprehensive behavioral health, suicide-risk, and safety assessments.
• Manage an ongoing outpatient therapy caseload.
• Provide crisis intervention and same-day behavioral health evaluations, as clinically appropriate.
• Partner closely with physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, pharmacists, medical assistants, and care coordinators.
• Participate in regular interdisciplinary huddles, treatment planning, and case consultation.
• Develop collaborative treatment plans and document care in the electronic health record.
• Support transitions following emergency department visits and psychiatric hospitalizations.
• Help patients build coping skills, emotional regulation, independence, and confidence using care in ways that fit their goals and needs.
• Coordinate with community resources when clinically indicated, while maintaining psychotherapy as the central focus of the role.
• Use defined clinical outcomes and patient feedback to guide care and contribute to ongoing improvement of the IOC care model.

Minimum Qualifications

Required
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

One of the following
  • Current Licensed Clinical Social Worker (L.C.S.W.) certificate for clinical practice in the State of Utah.
  • Current license to practice as a Certified Social Worker in the State of Utah.

Preferences

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Social Work, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Art Therapy, or another related behavioral health field.
• Current clinical licensure, or eligibility for licensure consistent with University requirements, to provide psychotherapy. Eligible candidates may include LCSWs, CMHCs, LMFTs, clinically credentialed art therapists, and other qualifying licensed mental health clinicians.
• Experience providing individual psychotherapy to adults.
• Ability to assess behavioral health risk, develop safety plans, and respond effectively to clinical crises.
• Experience in integrated primary care, collaborative care, or interdisciplinary behavioral health settings.
• Experience in community mental health, hospital-based care, crisis stabilization, or other high-acuity outpatient settings.
• Training or experience in CBT, DBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, or trauma-informed care.
• Experience working with adults with complex mental health needs, including trauma-related conditions, substance-use disorders, mood disorders, and personality-related challenges.
• Experience serving undeserved or medically complex populations.
• Interest in using clinical outcomes to guide treatment and improve care delivery.
