Sylvamo's Eastover Mill, located approximately 30 minutes from Columbia, South Carolina, is one of the company's largest manufacturing facilities, producing more than 2,500 tons of bleached pulp and paper daily. The mill employs approximately 660 team members and more than 100 continuous presence contractors and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week within a high-performance work system.
Position Summary
The PS&D Business Unit Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for the mill's Product Scheduling and Delivery (PS&D) Department, ensuring the safe, reliable, environmentally responsible, and cost-effective operation of critical department assets. This role is responsible for leading all aspects of the rewinder, wrapper, warehouse, and shipping operations and mill-wide rail services while fostering a culture of safety, continuous improvement, operational excellence, and employee engagement.
The PS&D Department includes responsibility for:
- Loading / Shipping / Warehousing Operations
This position provides leadership and development for more than 100 technicians and the PS&D Management Work Team. The successful candidate will foster safety culture, build organizational capability, drive performance improvements, and ensure alignment with mill and company objectives in the areas of safety, environmental compliance, reliability, production, quality, and cost management.
As a member of the Eastover Mill Lead Team, the PS&D Business Unit Manager plays a key role in developing and executing mill-wide business strategies while maintaining strong financial stewardship through budgeting, forecasting, and cost management activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all PS&D Department operations to achieve world-class safety, environmental, reliability, and performance results.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and development for PS&D personnel and management team members.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements in the department.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, operational efficiency, reliability, and cost optimization.
- Manage departmental budgets, monthly forecasts, and financial performance.
- Develop and execute strategic plans that support mill and business objectives.
- Foster a culture of safety, engagement, accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.
- Collaborate across departments to improve overall mill performance and business results.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technical Discipline, Business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience within a warehousing and/or shipping & logistics function at a Pulp and Paper, or related industrial manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated success leading teams and delivering results in safety, reliability, operational performance, and cost management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience serving as a member of a mill or manufacturing facility leadership team.
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement certification.
- Experience managing warehousing and distribution systems in a large-scale industrial manufacturing environment.
