As a Propulsion Engineering - Manager Level 2 located in Promontory, UT, you'll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.

The Propulsion Manager 2 will oversee a team of 10-15 engineers supporting nozzle design and analysis tasks for all commercial and NASA nozzles manufactured by propulsion systems. This position is a working manager position with most of the time being dedicated to working program direct issues.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Focus on work execution and personnel development
  • Serve as the focal point for workflow into their section. The work assignments and budget will flow from the CE/PE to the S02 manager. The S02 manager is responsible for ensuring the budget and schedule requirements are met
  • Responsible for coordination with organizations outside of D&A to ensure that the D&A support needed is provided
  • Coordinate with their program CE to set priorities within the D&A organization
  • Acting SME if necessary and time permits
  • Manager will be a working manager and will spend at least 85% of their time charging direct, split between individual contributions and peer reviews
  • Manager will be responsibility for the development of all employee within their team
  • Manager will be responsible for managing the workload and flowing priorities for each employee. The S02 manager oversees work efficiency. Responsible to find work in other organizations if their employees do not have sufficient critical work to keep them busy and to bring in temporary help if needed.
  • Manager will be responsible for the overall training and development of new hires and transfers. They will execute the plan approved by the S03 manager. The training will be overseen in conjunction with applicable SMEs. They will ensure that the new hire or transfer does not do any work that they are not certified without oversight.
  • Manager will keep track of the completed certification and work each new hire or transfer is allowed to do without oversight.
  • Manager is responsible for understanding and executing the vision established by the Manager 3
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (STEM) with 8 years of professional experience - OR - Master's degree with 6 years of professional experience - OR - PhD with 4 years of professional experience.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
  • Demonstrated team leadership skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong understanding of NG D&A systems, particularly pertaining to the creation and release of design products
  • Must be knowledgeable of CM rules and practices
  • Experience producing drawings, test plans, analysis and/or reports
  • A working knowledge of the design, analysis, and production of solid rocket motor nozzles
  • Experience supporting production and dispositioning discrepant hardware
  • Understanding of nozzle failure modes and risks and experience communicating those modes and risks
  • Ability to advocate for the technically robust solution in an aggressive cost and schedule environment


PreferredQualifications:
  • Minimum of 4 years in solid rocket motor nozzle design or analysis experience
  • Lead engineer or management experience
  • Understanding of NGC systems and a history of making them more efficient
  • Mentoring experience

Primary Level Salary Range: $139,100.00 - $208,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
