Overview

We are seeking a Project/Test Engineer to join the JETSII Contract to support a temporary role for the GARLIC team. GARLIC (Grains Aerosolized of Regolith Liberated in an Internal Cabin) aims to increase the fidelity of the test data by performance in a mock lunar EVA and performing dust mitigation in a vacuum chamber. This work additionally automates, standardizes, and baselines dust mitigation for future testing and reference. From this work, it is expected that the first quantifiable dust mitigation efficacy and liberation data in a representativeenvironment will be obtained and used across both the Artemis and Moon Base campaigns by a number of projects and offices. This position is suited for an engineer who can work across test planning and execution, logistics coordination, procedure development, and cross functional team alignment. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in a dynamic project environment and can grow with the program.

Responsibilities

The Project Test Engineer - GARLIC will:

  • Work in a team environment.
  • Assist in the setup, reconfiguration, and clean-up of test area
  • Startup and shutdown the system following the respective checklists
  • Monitor key performance indicators during tests to ensure test subject's safety
  • Be proficient with using a computer and following a computerized checklist
  • Learn and perform emergency procedures when required
  • Be vigilant for events or conditions that require immediate action to stop the test
  • Operate standard equipment and/or instruments including hand-held power tools and manual (i.e. non-CNC) machine shop tools (i.e. lathes, drill press, mills, band saw, etc.)
  • Proficiency with hand-tools (i.e. screw drivers, ratchets, wrenches, rivet tools, etc.) - Perform maintenance and operation of mechanical systems in assigned work areas, including research, documentation, acquiring parts, repairing, and calibration of devices and systems
  • Determine and develop methods, procedures, and laboratory apparatus required to fulfill assignments and achieve prescribed objectives
  • Prepare and update safety documentation, such as Hazard Analyses
  • Prepare written materials for Test Readiness Reviews
  • Adhere to written and standardized operating procedures, policies, and protocols for use of equipment
  • Practice machine shop safety protocols
  • Have an ability to visualize and solve practical problems
  • Assist in preparation of test procedures, test preparation sheets, discrepancy report disposition, unscheduled maintenance order reports, operational servicing reports, breadboard or developmental equipment sketches, and test setup or test article jig design
  • Maintain calibration for facility equipment
  • Work at elevated locations using systems/equipment such as ladders, man-lifts, scaffolding other work platforms.
  • Maintain equipment as necessary, including preventive maintenance and repairs or replacement of parts.
  • Maintain work area in a neat, orderly, and safe condition
  • Identify and correct potential hazards and/or unsafe acts/conditions at the work site.
Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, or related technical field emphasis on electrical, thermal, pressure systems and mechanical engineering.
  • Experience supporting complex aerospace, test, integration, operations.
  • Experience working across multiple disciplines to coordinate technical work and drive execution.
  • Experience developing or supporting engineering documentation, procedures, plans, or readiness products.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-moving environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferences:

  • Experience with NASA or human spaceflight/project engineering processes.
  • Experience supporting spacecraft, payload, or other complex system integration and tests.
  • Experience with hardware handling, transportation, GSE, pathfinding, or environmental/functional test campaigns.
  • Experience supporting readiness reviews, anomaly resolution, or integrated test execution.
  • Experience with operations concept development, console operations, training development, or certification planning.
  • Familiarity with configuration-controlled environments and disciplined engineering execution.

Essential Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Applicant selected may be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Work may involve sitting for extended periods.
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lb.
  • Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary.
  • Generally, an office environment but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
  • Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.)
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
