Overview

Position Summary

Project Operations Support Specialist acts as the primary contact between the Project Team and the Production Team, ensures that project activities are integrated into the normal operation of the impacted production areas and is required to participate in design, implementation, training, and startup of projects.

Responsibilities

Actively supports departmental and site safety leadership initiatives.

Accountable for delivery of Goal Zero.

     

A required participant in: project reviews, hazard assessment, and PSSR meetings.

Provides input to the concept development and construction stages of projects.

Leads / coordinates the development of commissioning / startup / shutdown procedures.

Leads / coordinates / develops / delivers operator training for new facilities.

Leads / coordinates the development of documentation for new facilities.

Fine-tunes operation of new projects.

Develops the operations readiness plan.

Reviews project P&IDs, verifies ISO drawings (valves and bleeders are in the appropriate location), verifies equipment location, and ensures equipment labeling and tagging is complete.

Aids in determination of staffing / production unit resource needs for projects.

Provides mentoring to projects personnel for operations skills and specific unit training.

Manages the acceptance of completed projects.

Strong ownership for delivering the intended results of the project, including understanding operating needs (in terms of operability) better than the production team.

Primary focal point between projects and operations responsible for ensuring operational input provided to project teams.

Ensure full integration of operations with projects.

Qualifications

Ability to work a multitude of projects with varying complexity.

Must maintain a wide breadth of technical and interpersonal skills while serving the potentially conflicting needs of different customers and stakeholders.

Supporting the project department’s safety improvement plan and demonstrating strong safety leadership and hazard recognition and mitigation

High school diploma or equivalent.

Strong stakeholder management skills.

Excellent communication skills.

Computer skills well developed.

Works well under pressure.

Ability to resolve conflicts.

Ability to meet deadlines.

Leadership and coaching.

Thorough understanding of the operational readiness and commissioning processes required.

10+ years experience as operator in chemical plant or refinery.

Experience with the Management of Change (MOC) process.

Working experience with Aspen software (ACCE).

Education Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
