ResponsibilitiesThe Project Manager will play a vital role in developing a comprehensive plan to consolidate and centralize Western University's animal-based research facilities and services. This includes appropriate consideration of affiliated hospital sites and core facilities dedicated to many areas of research, including neuroscience, imaging, biomaterials, and musculoskeletal health. The role will facilitate and manage the development of a comprehensive plan that accounts for all required logistical aspects, infrastructure and equipment, budget models, organizational structures, and communications to leverage efficiencies and cost savings. The Project Manager will work in consultation with senior leaders in ACVS and Western Research, as well as relevant committees/working groups, and Principal Investigators to collect information for the purpose of formulating a plan and providing recommendations. The role will prepare and present updates to key groups and support the development and delivery of key stakeholder communications that could be used during the implementation of the plan.
QualificationsEducation:
- Certification in Project Management with Focus on Agile or Lean Methods
- 3 year Community College Diploma in a related field (e.g. Construction Project Management, Project Management)
- Certification in Process or Industrial Engineering preferred
- Certification in Laboratory Animal Professional Designation (e.g. Registered Manager Laboratory Animal Technology (RMLAT); Certified Manager of Animal Resources (CMAR)) preferred
Experience:
- 3 years' experience managing complex enterprise-wide projects or the development of plans related to multi-site facilities operations
- Experience with project management methodologies and metrics development
- Project management experience working in the healthcare, research or higher education sectors preferred
- Project management or related management experience within animal research facilities preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of CCAC, OMAFA and laboratory animal regulations
- Knowledge regarding animal population transitions, biosecurity and health status considerations
- Familiarity with blueprints, construction drawings, CAD drawings, and related documents
- Project management skills to align the plan with strategic goals and operational objectives
- Ability to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of the team to maximize productivity
- Communication skills with the ability to converse with, write reports for, and deliver presentations to all levels of the organization
- Proven written communication skills, with the ability to produce content, as well as reports and documentation
- Organizational skills to manage multiple activities that are accurate and thorough, sometimes of a complex nature
- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
- Knowledge of common project obstacles and necessary controls and contingency plans that will help address them
- Ability to provide solutions and ideas for improvement by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
- Ability and willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
- Professional manner, tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with various stakeholders and colleagues, including senior management
- Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
