NC Salary Grade NC18-$61,545-$107,703

This position serves as the Division Project Manager providing supervision and management in development and coordination of the planning, design and construction of division managed projects and locally managed projects. This includes oversight and review of preparation of contract documents, engineering estimates, specifications, standard drawings and special construction details as well as developing and implementing measures to control projects costs. The position tracks all aspects of each project from conception to completion including project feasibility, planning, public involvement, project design, right-of-way acquisition, environmental issues, budget and project letting and award to ensure timely delivery of projects and programs. This position works closely with established MPO's and RPO's in the planning of TIP projects, responds to the public, local government agencies, Raleigh based staff and private engineering firms regarding the status and design aspects of highway projects withing the division.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Management prefers applicants with the following:
  • Experience managing a project team to deliver transportation projects and tracking/maintaining project schedules.
  • Knowledge of professional engineering principles and practices of civil engineering as related to Highway Design with an emphasis on project planning, project design, and construction and maintenance methods, as they apply to the Project Delivery Process.
  • Knowledge of Professional Engineering contracts and understanding scoping, estimating, and negotiating contracts.
  • Demonstrated ability setting priorities, developing work schedules, monitoring goal progress, and tracking details/data/information/activities.
  • Demonstrated ability expressing moderately complex engineering concepts and related facts in a clear and organized manner to internal and external customers

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
