What We're Looking For:

Michael Baker International is seeking a Senior Project Manager - Highway/Roadway Design to lead the delivery of transportation infrastructure projects across New Jersey and the Philadelphia region.

This role includes overseeing roadway design and plan development, with expertise in roadway geometry, ADA compliance, roadside safety, utilities, traffic control, site development, contract documents, cost analyses, stakeholder coordination, and proposal support.

Ideal candidates have experience working with agencies such as NJDOT, NJTA, SJTA, NJTPA, and PANYNJ, with PennDOT and/or City of Philadelphia experience considered a plus.

What You'll Do:
  • Manage a team of engineers with design and production of highway construction drawings
  • Prepare and review project bid documents including plans, specifications, quantities, and cost estimates; perform roadway design tasks.
  • Hold responsibilities of a Project Manager and communicates with the Task Leads
  • Prepare moderately complex studies, construction documents, drawings, maps, reports, and supporting documentation
  • Occasionally visit work site(s) and report findings to other experienced engineers and/or project managers
  • Communicate with clients regarding project issues, holds and attends meetings
  • Defines scope of work and staff-hour requirements for client proposals
  • Ensures that project/task schedules and budgets are met
  • Leads and supports technical aspects of proposal production
  • Ensure work efforts for assigned tasks fall within established budgets
  • Mentor task managers and project engineers. Maintain knowledge through completion of various training initiatives.

What You Need to Succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required (Master's degree desired)
  • 10+ years of highway design experience supporting transportation clients, including agencies such as NJDOT, NJTA, SJTA, NJTPA, and PANYNJ is preferred, PennDOT and/or City of Philadelphia is desirable.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local design standards, including:
    • AASHTO Design Guidelines for Highways and Streets
    • FHWA MUTCD
    • NJDOT, NJTA, SJTA,NJTPA standards, which can also include PennDOT and/or City of Philadelphia
  • PE license in PA; NY or NJ desirable.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor multi-disciplinary teams on complex transportation projects
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills, essential for client interaction and long-term success
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply company policies, procedures, software tools, and client standards

Compensation:

The approximate compensation range for this position is $115,000-$165,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
