Full Job Description
Overview

LMI is seeking a proactive and highly organized Project Management Specialist to support a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) program focused on suicide prevention and mental health.

This role will provide day-to-day project management, administrative, and operational support across multiple technical and programmatic workstreams. The successful candidate will work closely with Program Managers, Project Managers, technical teams, and client stakeholders to keep work organized, maintain visibility into priorities and commitments, and help ensure teams follow through on key actions and deliverables.

This position is ideal for someone who is comfortable working in the gray, takes initiative without waiting for every task to be assigned, and is eager to learn how complex federal programs are managed. We are looking for a dependable, curious, and resourceful teammate who is willing to jump in where needed, ask thoughtful questions, identify gaps, and continuously take on greater responsibility.

The role will also provide exposure to the technical side of the program, including work involving Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint, data and analytics, and program evaluation. The ideal candidate does not need to be a developer or data scientist but should have an interest in understanding how technical solutions are designed, delivered, and managed.

This position offers a strong development path for an individual interested in growing into increasingly complex project and program management responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Support Program Managers and Project Managers across multiple projects and workstreams, providing day-to-day coordination, administrative support, and execution follow-through.
  • Maintain project schedules, calendars, trackers, action logs, risk and issue logs, decision records, and other project-management artifacts.
  • Coordinate meeting logistics, develop agendas, capture clear and accurate meeting minutes, track action items, and drive follow-up with responsible team members.
  • Help maintain visibility into project priorities, milestones, deadlines, dependencies, and outstanding decisions.
  • Coordinate inputs for contract deliverables, status reports, program reviews, leadership briefings, and client-facing materials.
  • Develop and maintain polished PowerPoint presentations, Excel trackers, dashboards, and other project-management materials.
  • Organize and maintain project documentation in SharePoint, including SOPs, templates, trackers, deliverables, meeting records, and other program artifacts.
  • Support onboarding and offboarding activities, including coordination of VA access, systems, tools, documentation, and program orientation.
  • Assist with Agile delivery activities, including sprint planning, backlog coordination, Scrum or Kanban ceremonies, action tracking, and maintenance of Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.
  • Support Project Managers in gathering and documenting requirements, user needs, acceptance criteria, and project decisions.
  • Coordinate across technical, analytical, and program teams to ensure information is shared, commitments are understood, and work continues to move forward.
  • Gain familiarity with technical workstreams involving Microsoft Power Platform, Power BI, Power Apps, SharePoint, analytics, data, and program evaluation and support the associated project-management activities.
  • Proofread and quality-check client deliverables for completeness, consistency, accuracy, and presentation quality.
  • Support internal reporting activities, including program management reviews, quarterly reviews, staffing updates, and leadership briefings.
  • Proactively identify missing information, process gaps, upcoming deadlines, risks, or areas requiring follow-up and bring them to the attention of project or program leadership.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and smaller initiatives, working independently to drive them through completion.
  • Step in to facilitate meetings, coordinate activities, or provide additional support when project leadership is unavailable.
  • Seek opportunities to improve project processes, documentation, reporting, and team coordination.
  • Learn from Project and Program Managers and gradually take on increased responsibility for project planning, client interaction, Agile delivery, and workstream management.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, management, public administration, information systems, technology, public health, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in project coordination, project management, consulting, program operations, business operations, or a related role.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in environments where requirements or direction may not always be fully defined.
  • A proactive, self-starter mindset with the ability to identify what needs to be done, ask appropriate questions, and move work forward with limited direction.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Experience developing meeting agendas, capturing minutes, maintaining action items, and coordinating follow-through.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to develop professional, client-ready presentations, trackers, reports, and other project materials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working with team members and stakeholders across different disciplines and levels of seniority.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical, analytical, and operational teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and willingness to take ownership of unfamiliar assignments.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and an appetite to learn and grow within the project and program management career path.
  • Interest in technology-enabled programs and willingness to develop greater familiarity with technical delivery concepts and tools.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required background investigation or Public Trust.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience supporting the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, or another federal government client.
  • Experience or interest in suicide prevention, mental health, behavioral health, healthcare, public health, or Veteran services.
  • Experience supporting Agile or hybrid delivery teams and familiarity with Scrum or Kanban practices.
  • Experience using Jira, Azure DevOps, or comparable project-management tools.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform, including Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, or related technologies.
  • Familiarity with program evaluation, performance measurement, data analytics, or data-informed decision-making.
  • Comfort working alongside developers, analysts, data scientists, evaluators, and technical subject matter experts.
  • Experience developing or maintaining project dashboards, status trackers, reporting tools, or management metrics.
  • Exposure to federal contract operations, staffing, deliverable management, or performance reporting.
  • Project management or Agile certification such as CAPM, CSM, PSM, SAFe, or equivalent, or demonstrated interest in pursuing certification.
  • Interest in progressing into a Sr Project Manager and eventually Program Manager role.

Target salary range: $110,000-$125,000
