Job DescriptionOverviewReporting to the Vice President of Monark Engineering, the Project Engineering Director - Civil plays a pivotal strategic and technical leadership role in advancing our Monark New Build. This role is ideal for a seasoned nuclear professional who thrives at the intersection of engineering excellence, innovation, and people leadership.
The Project Engineering Director - Civil shall provide strategic and principal leadership role with respect to their assigned technical disciplines of the Monark New Build Project. They are responsible for building and sustaining a high-performing, multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers, and technicians with primary accountability for the civil & structural scope of the project. This team will deliver their assigned new build design on time, on budget and with quality.
Your role- Lead the development and modernization of in-house civil/structural engineering and drafting capabilities aligned with long-term OEM strategy.
- Ensure optimal department sizing, including workforce planning to meet current and future project demands.
- Drive succession planning, talent development, and knowledge transfer across the organization.
- Promote a strong nuclear safety culture based on INPO standards and ensure robust training and qualification programs.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement across engineering teams.
- Oversee Technical Managers, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and implementation of performance metrics to improve team effectiveness.
- Strengthen relationships with customers and stakeholders through active engagement, industry representation, and support of STEM and brand initiatives.
- Manage operational and technical functions, including budgets, resource planning, engineering governance, quality assurance, and development of best practices.
About you- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and Professional Engineer (P.Eng) licensed in Canada and/or the U.S., in good standing.
- Minimum 16 years of engineering experience, including design, leadership, and nuclear site project exposure.
- Strong knowledge of nuclear plant systems, operations, regulatory frameworks, and applicable codes/standards (including National Building Code of Canada).
- Proficiency in 3D drafting and structural analysis tools (e.g., SmartPlant 3D) and seismic analysis for nuclear applications.
- Established credibility and professional network within the nuclear industry, especially with CANDU stakeholders.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams in high-performance environments.
- Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, mentoring, and project planning capabilities.
- Experience in talent management, succession planning, hiring, and willingness to travel, with security clearance eligibility required.
