Full Job Description
Project Engineer II - Commercial Construction

HC Company is seeking an experienced Project Engineer II to join our commercial construction team. This is not an entry-level PE position. We're looking for someone who understands the construction process, can take ownership of key project controls, and is ready to play an active role in driving projects from preconstruction through closeout. You'll work alongside Project Managers and Superintendents on a diverse portfolio of commercial projects, including healthcare, veterinary, education, industrial, and retail construction.

What You'll Do
  • Own and manage RFIs, submittals, procurement tracking, project documentation, and closeout activities.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and submittals to identify scope gaps, coordination issues, and constructability concerns.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, architects, engineers, and owners to resolve project issues.
  • Support subcontractor buyout, contracting, change management, cost tracking, and material procurement.
  • Track long-lead materials and critical project activities to support schedule commitments.
  • Participate in project, subcontractor, pre-installation, and coordination meetings.
  • Support field operations through drawing interpretation, documentation, issue resolution, and coordination between trades.
  • Participate in QA/QC and site safety efforts and help ensure project requirements are being met.
  • Maintain accurate and timely project information using Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, Microsoft Office, and other project management tools.
  • Identify issues early, develop solutions, and communicate impacts to the project team.
  • Mentor and support less-experienced team members as opportunities arise.
What You'll Bring
  • 3+ years of Project Engineer or comparable commercial construction experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent construction experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of RFIs, submittals, drawings, specifications, procurement, change management, and project closeout.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and identify coordination and constructability issues.
  • Experience with Procore and Bluebeam strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, follow-through, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and independently drive assigned work to completion.
  • A team-oriented mindset and desire to continue developing toward increased project management responsibility.
