We are seeking a Project Engineer - Capital Projects to join our Engineering team in the Greater Toronto Area.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer looking to build a career in capital project management, engineering, and manufacturing infrastructure within a growing multi-site bakery organization.

The successful candidate will play an important role in delivering a significant annual capital investment program across multiple bakery and manufacturing locations throughout Canada.

Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, you will work on a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from plant expansions and production capacity growth to major infrastructure upgrades, new equipment installations, automation, utilities, and facility modernization.

This is a hands-on role where you will have the opportunity to take projects from concept through design, construction, commissioning, and operational handover.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Capital Project Management

• Lead and support multiple capital projects across bakery facilities throughout Canada.
• Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, business cases, and execution strategies.
• Manage projects through all phases, including:
• Concept development
• Feasibility and business case
• Engineering and design
• Procurement
• Construction and installation
• Commissioning and start-up
• Project closeout and handover
• Manage project budgets, schedules, risks, and change orders.
• Provide regular project status updates to the Director of Engineering and key stakeholders.

Growth & Expansion Projects

Support the company's growth strategy through projects such as:

• Bakery expansions and production capacity increases
• New production lines and manufacturing equipment
• New or expanded processing and packaging areas
• Facility expansions and building modifications
• Warehouse and distribution infrastructure
• New production capabilities and product introductions

Infrastructure & Engineering Projects

Lead or support projects involving:

• Electrical distribution and power systems
• HVAC and refrigeration
• Compressed air
• Steam and hot water systems
• Process water and wastewater
• Natural gas and other utilities
• Building infrastructure
• Fire protection systems
• Plant reliability and infrastructure improvements

Project Execution

• Coordinate engineering consultants, contractors, equipment suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
• Prepare and review equipment specifications, layouts, drawings, quotations, and technical documentation.
• Manage contractors during construction and installation activities.
• Coordinate shutdowns and construction activities to minimize disruption to production.
• Ensure projects are executed safely and in accordance with company standards and applicable Canadian codes and regulations.
• Lead equipment installation, commissioning, start-up, and operational handover.
• Work closely with Operations and Maintenance to ensure new assets are safe, reliable, maintainable, and fit for purpose.
• Identify and resolve technical and construction issues during project execution.

WHAT YOU BRING

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 3-4+ years of engineering and capital project experience, preferably in food manufacturing, bakery, pharma, CPG, or a high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated experience supporting or managing capital projects from concept through commissioning.
• Practical knowledge of industrial facilities, manufacturing equipment, utilities, and construction.
• Experience working with contractors, engineering consultants, equipment manufacturers, and suppliers.
• Strong project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and execution skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
• Willingness to travel periodically to bakery locations across Canada.
• PMP or other recognized project management certification.
• Experience in bakery, food processing, CPG, or manufacturing.
• Experience with production-line installations, plant expansions, infrastructure upgrades, and utility projects.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD or other engineering/design software.
• Familiarity with applicable OBC/NBC, CSA, NFPA, TSSA, HACCP/GFSI, and other regulatory requirements.
• Experience with equipment commissioning and manufacturing start-ups.
