Nature of Work

Civil Engineering graduate working in the planning, design, construction inspection, and
maintenance of a variety of municipal or public works projects and facilities.

NOTE: This position is assigned to the Public Works Engineering
Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties

  • Reviews field surveys to interpret information required for the design and construction of public works projects
  • Reviews plans for public works projects for compliance with standards
  • Prepares engineering reports, basis of design reports, and regulatory compliance filings, ensures that reports are detailed, methodical, and provide clear logic for engine
  • Reviews permit applications for proposed utility installations and/or construction; issues recommendations to supervisors on effects to existing or proposed utilities or rig
  • Acts as liaison between City and consulting engineers, utility companies, engineering firms, and/or city departments engaged in construction
  • Assists in the supervision of inspection of public works projects, including, but not limited to roads, bridges, water supply systems, streetlights, sanitary sewer systems, a

Minimum Requirements

  • Communicates clearly, concisely, and comprehensibly in both written and verbal format
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • OR Bachelor's degree in Engineering with one (1) year full-time paid civil engineer experience.
  • OR Florida registered Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T.) with one (1) year full-time paid Civil engineer experience

Physical Requirements:
  • Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public via the telephone and personal contact
  • Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, word processor, calculator, copier, and fax machine
  • Ability to stand, walk, move, or kneel may be required to perform duties
  • Physical capability to effectively use field inspection instruments including, but not limited to: cameras, levels, measuring tapes, survey tools, measuring rods, measuring wheels, and paper, bound, or electronic inspection forms/books.
