Project Engineer | New York, NYIMEG is hiring a Project Engineer in New York, NY to support the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of structural systems for buildings and other structures. In this role, you will work closely with a team of engineers and consultants to deliver engineering solutions and technical advice that help clients achieve positive outcomes.
This role includes project planning, budgeting, scheduling, quality control, mentoring, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle. You will contribute to work serving commercial and institutional markets in the New York metro while helping deliver practical structural solutions and contributing to sustainable design goals including SE2050.

What You'll Do - Lead design efforts for the analysis and design of structural systems for buildings and other structures.
- Utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.
- Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, communicate technical information effectively, and build and maintain client relationships through professional communication.
- Work as part of a project team to support the execution of consulting projects, and lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives.
- Document design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring project design progress as related to percent complete and fee expended.
- Analyze engineering problems, propose innovative solutions, and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions.
- Provide in-process design reviews of structural system design, calculations, and specifications, and implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards and client requirements.
- Train, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams to meet project goals and deliver integrated solutions.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in structural engineering, contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG, and identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager.
- Oversee projects through full life cycle from conception through construction by developing designs, construction documents and participating in construction administration duties, including reviewing construction submittals, requests for information (RFI's) and participating in job site observations.
- Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work and conduct oneself in an ethical and professional manner.
What You'll Bring Required Education - Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required
Experience - Professional Engineer (PE) License required
- 5 years of experience minimum required, 6 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
Required Skills/Abilities - Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
- Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in mechanics and materials, load paths, design techniques, design standards including steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and structures
- Strong training and mentoring skills
- Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including structural engineering design and analysis software
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrate effective team building skills
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
- Proficiency in the use of BIM software
- Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to travel up to 15% with occasional overnight stays
Preferred - Master's Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferred
Physical Requirements - Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds
- Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull
- Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises
