Job DescriptionWe are looking for a Project Engineer to enhance their technical and program management skills by leading integrated product teams that deliver electro-optical (EO) focal plane subsystems. This position is a creative and dynamic job opportunity where you'll work on a broad range of technologies, including ultraviolet, visible, near-infrared, short-wave infrared, mid-wave infrared, and long-wave infrared focal plane architectures. Your focal plane subsystems will enable space payloads to meet mission requirements across Civil, Defense, and Military applications.
This position is for a Focal Plane Subsystem Project Engineer and will report to the Detector Technology Center of the Payload Engineering department within the Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit of BAE Systems Space and Missions Systems (SMS).

What You'll Do:- Integrate project scope, schedule, and budget to execute the focal plane subsystem work products within a space payload program. Report metrics that assess the project's overall performance and progress to both the program and functional leadership.
- Lead a cross-functional team of engineers to design, develop, integrate & test, verify, qualify and deliver an innovative electro-optical (EO) focal plane subsystem that complies with performance requirements. Lead the team in preparing for major program reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, PSR).
- Communicate with both the BAE Systems SMS leadership and the customer community to provide program status, accomplishments, issues, and help needed.
- Actively work to identify, manage, and mitigate risks or capture opportunities. Resolve risks and opportunities through the Change Control Process.
- Leverage expertise to develop proposals, crafting compelling scope, cost, and schedule aspects of focal plane subsystem efforts. Play a key role in generating competitive proposals that meet customer requirements and industry standards.
- Oversee detector procurement and major subcontract activities, including statement of work and specification development. Provide technical management of subcontracts, including evaluations, negotiations, and execution throughout the subcontract lifecycle.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working
on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions: - Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Required Skills and Education- BS in Engineering or other related technical field plus 6 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- Experience leading a multidiscipline team (12 - 30 people) throughout a hardware deliverable project life cycle.
- Experience reporting program status and developing resource-loaded schedules.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (such as Project, Excel, Outlook, and Word)

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.
Preferred Skills and Education- Degree(s) in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Optical, Materials, Thermal, Systems, or Aerospace) is preferred.
- Knowledge of visible, NIR, SWIR, MWIR, and LWIR detector systems.
- Knowledge of micro-electronics packaging and testing of detectors.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.
- Certified as Cost Account Manager.
- A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is preferred.
