Full Job Description
Job Title: Project Controls Manager / Scheduler
Location: Baton Rouge, LA
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary:
The Project Controls Manager / Scheduler will play a key role in the planning and execution of projects from the estimating stage through completion.
During preconstruction, this position will partner with estimating and operations to develop realistic construction schedules, evaluate sequencing and execution strategies, identify schedule risks and opportunities, and help ensure that project duration, manpower, equipment, logistics, and other time-driven costs are properly considered in our estimates.

During construction, this position will work closely with Project Managers and Superintendents to develop and maintain detailed project schedules, establish measurable production plans, analyze actual performance against planned performance, and identify trends that could impact cost or schedule.
This is not simply a schedule-updating position. We are looking for someone who understands construction operations and can use scheduling and project controls as planning and decision-making tools to help our teams execute more effectively.

Key Responsibilities:Preconstruction & Estimating
  • Partner with Estimators, Project Managers, Superintendents, and Division Managers to develop bid and proposal schedules.
  • Develop construction sequencing and execution plans based on project scope, site conditions, resource requirements, procurement constraints, and contractual milestones.
  • Evaluate alternative means, methods, and sequencing strategies to identify opportunities to improve project duration, productivity, and cost.
  • Help estimating teams understand the cost implications of schedule duration, manpower loading, equipment utilization, temporary facilities, supervision, logistics, and other time-dependent project requirements.
  • Identify critical activities, long-lead items, schedule constraints, and execution risks during the estimating process.
  • Participate in estimate reviews, constructability discussions, project turnover meetings, and preconstruction planning.
Project Planning & Scheduling
  • Work with Project Managers and Superintendents to develop detailed baseline schedules that reflect the team's actual plan for executing the work.
  • Develop and maintain Primavera P6 schedules and other planning tools appropriate for each project.
  • Integrate subcontractor, procurement, engineering, owner, and self-perform activities into comprehensive project schedules.
  • Establish appropriate activity durations, sequencing, logic, constraints, and critical paths.
  • Assist project teams with schedule updates, forecasting, recovery planning, and evaluation of changes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify schedule risks early and work with project teams to develop mitigation and recovery strategies.
Productivity & Project Controls
  • Compare planned production, manpower, and progress against actual field performance.
  • Analyze productivity trends and provide project teams with information that allows them to make adjustments before issues materially impact cost or schedule.
  • Work with Project Managers and Superintendents to evaluate manpower requirements, production rates, sequencing, and remaining work.
  • Assist project teams in developing look-ahead plans that connect to the overall project schedule.

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of construction scheduling experience utilizing Primavera P6 software to develop and maintain level 4 schedules.
  • Strong knowledge of construction progress sequencing of various disciplines of work
  • Good understanding of Earned Value Management.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel.
  • Good communication skills. Both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage multiple project schedules simultaneously.
