About this Position

Reporting to the Project Delivery Manager, the Project Controller plays a critical role in managing the financial, scheduling, risk, and change aspects of projects. This involves overseeing the budget preparation, cost tracking, and financial forecasting to maintain the financial health of the project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Health and Safety
  • Be aware of any health and safety hazards or infractions and report same to Health and Safety Department.
  • Ensure the measures and procedures prescribed by the applicable Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations are carried out in the workplace.
  • Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Cementation.
  • Be a champion for safety, advocating safe behaviour while incorporating safety into continuous improvement deliverables.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Regular and detailed project reporting to stakeholders to maintain transparency and enhanced decision making.
  • Developing and maintaining project schedules to ensure timely completion of milestones and identifying and mitigating potential risks to safeguard project timelines and budgets.
  • Effective change management is crucial, requiring the handling of scope adjustments while ensuring all impacts are accurately recorded and communicated.

Daily Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with operations management to define and prepare control baselines, develop project schedules, establish budgets, and monitor progress.
  • Provide operations management with accurate, current cost information for informed decision-making. Prepare and issue regular progress and status reports as required.
  • Assist in analysing project schedules and cost reports, suggesting corrective actions to keep projects on track.
  • Ensure integration of forecasts according to client and Cementation standards.
  • Monitor planning and track progress and milestones using the project schedule.
  • Support area managers and site project controllers in managing documentation for scope changes and monitor their progress.
  • Maintain clear communication of project coding with accounting, purchasing, and operations teams.
  • Oversee timesheet entries and purchase orders to ensure correct project billing and expenditure.
  • Analyse performance data, identify trends, and collaborate with operations teams to develop mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in the preparation of close-out reports and maintain historical cost and production data.
  • Support proposal development and estimating efforts to align project estimates with project baselines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Long Term Responsibilities
  • Implementation of Standardized Project Control Systems: Implementation of comprehensive project control tools and systems that monitor project progress, track budgets, and manage timelines effectively.
  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously evaluating the effectiveness of the project control processes and systems in place, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing enhancements. This includes staying abreast of new technologies and methodologies in project management that could be adopted to improve efficiency and outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engaging with key stakeholders, including project managers, finance teams, and senior management, to gather feedback and ensure the project control systems meet the needs of the organization. Effective communication and collaboration with these stakeholders are essential for the successful adoption and optimization of the project control framework.

Travel Requirements
  • This position has the requirement for frequent travel to our project sites and offices.
  • Travel period may range from one day to several weeks.
  • Travel may include international assignments.

  • None directly.

Education and Experience
  • A University degree in a related field;
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or a Certified Cost Professional (CCP) designation, or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience;
  • 5+ years' experience in project controls with a high level of experience in planning, scheduling, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and estimating;
  • Must have experience working on large projects preferably in the mining sector with a sound knowledge of contract principles;

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Must be proficient with Primavera P6 and Excel.
  • Proficient in Oracle's JD Edwards software suite, or other ERPs.
  • Proficiency in Power Query, Power BI and InEight (Hard Dollar) is an advantage. If not must be willing to learn.
  • Familiarity with Data Access Studio by ReportsNow would be advantageous.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and organisational skills.
  • Conducts self in a professional manner and is adaptable and flexible to meet the needs of the role.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office.
  • Supporting sites.
