Project Accounting Manager

Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, the Project Accounting Manager will be part of a high-performing project team dedicated to delivering construction projects under the Industrial East division. As a Project Accounting Manager, you will be responsible for providing project accounting leadership and support for projects, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficient financial management. You will work closely with the operations and finance teams to ensure timely and accurate invoicing, cost reconciliation, and financial reporting.

This position will be based out of the Port Hope, ON

What You Will Be Working On

  • Lead a team of project accountants while working collaboratively with project controls team.
  • Accountable for the financial management of projects, including gross profit, project % complete forecasting, WIP, revenue recognition and backlog.
  • Oversee cost management activities, including cost reconciliation, analysis, and control measures, while ensuring adherence project contracts.
  • Oversee and offer guidance and process improvements for cost reimbursable billings; resolve billing discrepancies and issues to facilitate quick turnaround time on necessary revisions.
  • Review and provide input on project-level cash flow forecasting, as well as KPI and profit performance tracking.
  • Partner with operations to ensure proper AP and subcontractor accruals.
  • Keep up to date with outstanding payments and outstanding cash collections, providing reporting and follow-up as required.
  • Conduct regular cost reviews and reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies or variances.
  • Audit project profit & loss (P&L) reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company reporting policies and accounting standards.
  • Monitor project profitability including claims management to identify areas for risk and opportunities.
  • Oversee the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with project managers, directors, and other stakeholders to provide financial insights and support for project planning and execution.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies, including internal controls and external audit requirements.
  • Handle ad-hoc financial assignments and projects as required.
  • Support project closeout processes.
  • Respond to requests received from internal and external auditors.
  • Help champion a strong partnership and act as liaison between the district finance team and its operational counterparts.
  • Drive improvements in financial systems, reporting tools, and processes (e.g., ERP enhancements, automation).

What We Are Looking For
  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant work experience.
  • CPA or other relevant professional designation considered an asset.
  • Proven leadership experience of at least 4+ years.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency, ability to work with complex formulae, XLOOKUP/INDEXMATCH functions, and arrays.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems; experience in Viewpoint Vista or InEight considered an asset.
  • Industrial construction and public company experience considered an asset.
  • Ability to forge, grow, and maintain positive relationships with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, meet the time demands of unpredictable activities, handle pressure, and meet challenges in a dynamic business environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
