Job Summary

Responsible for the business functions performed relative to multiple major construction projects. Coordinate business and accounting matters, as may be applicable to construction contractors and between the Generation Project, Construction Management and other AEP personnel. Responsible for Project business functions, records and reporting, for projects ranging from $1 million to $2 billion-plus. This position will normally be located at AEP Headquarters, but may require regular site visits, or in some cases, relocation to the construction site.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Provide overall accounting oversight, guidance and support to assigned projects.

- Implement all applicable AEP system policies and procedures including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to ensure that all required accounts, records, methods and procedures are properly maintained.

- Implement Generation Business Services and AEP business and accounting procedures.

- Compile and reconcile monthly unvouchered liability accruals.

- Prepare periodic project cost control reports including validating and reconciling actual and incurred costs, analyzing cost to-date and making recommendations as to forecasted cost projections, while meeting critical deadlines. Ensure project costs are in line with approved funding and budget limits.

- Maintain and have sufficient working knowledge of files and logs, construction contracts, purchase orders, Extra Work Orders, back charges, and all relevant financial transactions to ensure the appropriate accounting and reporting of project cost.

- Develop, organize and set up new projects with respect to work orders, tasks, accounts and work breakdown structure.

- Follow up on irregularities and abnormal conditions to assure that the noted conditions are properly resolved.

- Perform project cost close-out functions including closing CI's and work orders, and validating final project costs.

- Administer records and other documents in accordance with retention schedules and/or contract requirements.

- Prepare analysis and/or responses to assist Project Accounting management in responding to internal or external audit questions.

- Establish and maintain effective communication with the Project Team, including but not limited to project manager and Project Controls personnel, as well as other AEP personnel responsible for taxes, purchasing, insurance, accounting, engineering or legal issues.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Based on education, experience, interview and internal equity, this opportunity will be filled at any title. For this posting, minimum requirements are stated at the lowest grade. Increased expectations are at higher grades.

Project Accountant Sr. (grade7): Base Salary = $88K - $109K

Project Accountant (mid-level) (grade 6): Base Salary = $75K - $93K

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Engineering or other relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.

Work Experience:

- Experience (with Bachelor's degree): None.

- Experience (without Bachelor's degree): Three (3) years of significant exposure to a "project management" environment, as cost analyst, project accountant or a related cost-control role; including, at least one (1) year of direct project accounting work (e.g., determination and recordation of monthly unvouchered liabilities for a project, preparing journal entries; running and analyzing project cost reports, dealing with controllable and uncontrollable costs, participating in ongoing project management meetings, and advising project management personnel regarding all accounting issues related to the project(s).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Skills must include a working knowledge of and experience with Excel, Word, and Business Objects.

Experience with PMM, PeopleSoft financials, PowerPlant and Asset Suite, while not absolutely critical, are considered beneficial.

Experience with Access, PowerPoint, Primavera, work breakdown structures, earned value progressing and risk assessment are less critical, but similarly beneficial. Ability to manage multiple priorities and simultaneous projects is required. '

Attention to detail and effective communication skills are a must for this position.

Solid understanding of business unit financial and operations systems and databases, as well as familiarity with AEP's accounting procedures is desirable.

A working knowledge of AEP's power plant facilities and systems including FGDs and SCRs is desirable.

Promote and enforce the Company's Accident Prevention and Safety and Health programs.

Base Salary: approximately $75K - $109K
