Full Job Description
Manifest Solutions is partnered with a regional energy partner with ongoing needs for Project Accountant professionals.
  • Responsible for business functions related to multiple major construction projects.
  • Coordinate business and accounting matters applicable to construction contractors, project teams, construction management, and related stakeholders.
  • Responsible for project business functions, records, and reporting for projects ranging from $1 million to $2 billion-plus.
  • Work may be performed from headquarters, project sites, or other assigned locations, with regular site visits or temporary relocation possible depending on project needs.
  • Provide overall accounting oversight, guidance and support to assigned projects.
  • Implement all applicable system policies and procedures including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to ensure that all required accounts, records, methods and procedures are properly maintained.
  • Compile and reconcile monthly unvouchered liability accruals.
  • Prepare periodic project cost control reports including validating and reconciling actual and incurred costs, analyzing cost to-date and making recommendations as to forecasted cost projections, while meeting critical deadlines.
  • Ensure project costs are in line with approved funding and budget limits.
  • Maintain and have sufficient working knowledge of files and logs, construction contracts, purchase orders, Extra Work Orders, backcharges, and all relevant financial transactions to ensure the appropriate accounting and reporting of project cost.
  • Develop, organize and set up new projects with respect to work orders, tasks, accounts and work breakdown structure.
  • Follow up on irregularities and abnormal conditions to ensure that the noted conditions are properly resolved.
  • Perform project cost close-out functions including closing CI's and work orders and validating final project costs.
  • Administer records and other documents in accordance with retention schedules and/or contract requirements.
  • Act as liaison with auditors for the auditing of all project activities.
  • Participate in the development of project accounting standards and guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with the Project Team, including but not limited to project manager and Project Controls personnel, as well as other personnel responsible for taxes, purchasing, insurance, accounting, engineering or legal issues.
  • Interface with cost analysts, project managers, plant managers, corporate accounting, construction managers, and procurement and contracts administrative personnel up to and including VP level, to obtain needed information, and in turn, provide requested assistance.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or accounting, or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • With a college degree, eight (8) years of general business/accounting experience, including ?ve (5) years of project accounting.
  • Without a college degree, eight (8) years of signi?cant exposure to a project management environment as a cost analyst, project accountant, or related cost-control role, including or in addition to eight (8) years of speci?c project accounting experience.
  • Relevant experience includes determining and recording monthly unvouchered liabilities for a project, preparing journal entries, running and analyzing project cost reports, addressing controllable and uncontrollable costs, participating in ongoing project management meetings, and advising project management personnel regarding accounting issues related to assigned projects.

Other Requirements:
  1. Skills must include working knowledge of and experience with Excel, Word, and Business Objects. Experience with PMM, People Soft ?nancials, Power Plant and Asset Suite, while not critical, are considered de?nite pluses.
  2. Experience with Access, PowerPoint, Primavera, work breakdown structures, earned value progressing and risk assessment are considered favorable qualities.
  3. Ability to manage multiple priorities and simultaneous projects is required.
  4. Attention to detail and e?ective communication skills are a must for this position.
  5. A working knowledge of the Uniform System of Accounts as prescribed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is preferred.
  6. Promote and enforce the Company's Accident Prevention and Safety and Health programs.
  7. Solid understanding of business unit ?nancial and operations systems and databases, as well as familiarity with accounting procedures is desirable.
  8. A working knowledge of power plant facilities and systems including FGDs and SCRs is desirable.
