Full Job Description
Our Underwriters are responsible for managing and growing a book of profitable Construction business consisting of Commercial General Liability and Excess Liability insurance policies. This role requires experience and judgement to analyze acceptability of risk, rate, quote, bind and service policies within underwriting guidelines while retaining producer relationships. The Experienced Underwriter will work in our Red Bank, NJ office OR Can work remotely in the Greater NY or NJ area with time in office for meetings. Responsibilities: - Underwrite construction book of business in General Liability and Auto programs utilizing sound judgment and discretion as well as relying on underwriting policies and guidelines, rating, rules and insurance laws and regulations. - Reviews, evaluates, markets and/or prices new and renewal applications, endorsements, and related documents within company/agency granted authority. - Ensure delivery, follow-up and servicing requirements of all new business and renewal accounts. Provide technical underwriting support for assigned accounts/agencies within the team as well as making individual underwriting decisions on referred accounts. - Accept, reject, classify, price, and bind insurance risks within granted underwriting authority. Also, broker/recommend to company underwriters beyond any authority grants. Prepare submissions for rating and handling by the staff. Effectively market and negotiate with brokers and insurance companies on individual accounts. Effective and timely communication to pursue opportunities. - Effectively communicate with agent or broker clients, company underwriters, internal staff, and management to obtain additional information, quote rates, present proposals, explain company underwriting policies and coverage offerings, as well as servicing existing accounts. - Address assigned workload within quality, productivity and service standards as established by the company/underwriting guidelines. - Assist in the development and implementation of new marketing strategies. - Appropriate and timely response to questions posed by brokers, clients, underwriters, and other team members. - Coordinate tasks with third party vendors including inspections, audits, and contract review services. - Visit brokers and company clients to enhance relationships and improve production opportunities up to and including attending trade conventions. - Coordinate with third party vendors including inspections, audits, and contract review services. Requirements: - Bachelor's Degree or equivalent relevant work experience. - Three plus years of construction related underwriting experience or experience with GL and construction highly preferred. - Demonstrated ability to build relationships with both agencies and carriers. The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. Discretionary incentive compensation may be awarded.
