Responsibilities
The Safety Program Manager will support SPA in providing vision, direction, and oversight of a team of safety engineers in support of Navy SSP’s Command Safety Program. They will act as primary liaison with other safety working groups supporting the program. They will report to top level program management and systems engineering teams concerning all Navy SSP safety updates and issues and coordinate with the contractor government safety team to address safety hazards and environmental impacts, identifying and documenting all potential hazards, related mishaps, and associated risk information. The disciplines covered include discrepancy reporting, training and certification, documentation change control, configuration control, material review systems, corrective action systems, and process proofing. In addition, the Engineer will identify safety areas of responsibility pertinent to support relevant weapons systems. Areas of responsibility include (but are not limited to): weapons systems safety, explosive safety, environmental and asset safety, transportation and logistics safety, fire prevention, lightning protection and grounding, as well as Occupational Safety and Health, Industrual Hygiene, and hazardous material (HAZMAT) safety.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to work at SPA Headquarters, Alexandria, VA and travel to Washington Navy Yard, Washington DC, a minimum of 3 days per week, up to 5 days per week based on client needs.
- Active TOP SECRET DoW security clearance.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field, or Master's Degree in a related field.
- 8+ years of experience as a System Safety Engineer.
- Proven ability to prioritize and execute workload to meet requirements and deadlines and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment conducting analysis with uncertainties or incomplete data.
- Strong communication skills with experience briefing senior/executive leadership on projects, system concepts, or design decisions. Capable of breaking down complex issues into simplified problem statements and laying out objective approaches to identify and compare the merits of competing solutions.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience managing safety teams supporting Navy weapons programs.
- Experience in any of the following: nuclear weapons safety, Navy weapons safety, explosives safety, flight testing safety, safety technical review panels, safety data packages, multi-discipline working groups, industrual hygiene, professional safety certifications.
