Lead Louisiana's premier environmental public health program and make a statewide impact by protecting communities from environmental and occupational health hazards. As the Environmental Epidemiology and Toxicology Section Director (Program Manager 2), you'll guide critical initiatives that address chemical exposures, lead poisoning prevention, environmental surveillance, indoor air quality, and emergency response while partnering with public health leaders, regulatory agencies, and emergency response organizations. This is a unique opportunity to shape public health policy, lead high-impact programs, and improve the health and safety of communities across Louisiana.

Minimum Qualifications
Seven years of experience in developing, managing, or evaluating health or social service programs; or in public health, public relations, social services, health services, health regulation, or administrative services; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus four years of experience in developing, managing, or evaluating health or social service programs; or in public health, public relations, social services, health services, health regulation, or administrative services; OR

A bachelor's degree plus four years of experience in developing, managing, or evaluating health or social service programs; or in public health, public relations, social services, health services, health regulation, or administrative services; OR

An advanced degree or a Juris Doctorate plus three years of experience in developing, managing, or evaluating health or social service programs; or in public health, public relations, social services, health services, health regulation, or administrative services.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Directs and oversees statewide environmental public health programs, ensuring effective planning, implementation, evaluation, and compliance with state and federal public health priorities.
  • Leads environmental and occupational health assessments to evaluate the public health impact of environmental exposures and develop recommendations to reduce or eliminate health risks.
  • Provides administrative and managerial oversight for multiple statewide programs, including environmental surveillance, toxic exposure monitoring, lead poisoning prevention, indoor air quality, occupational health, and disease cluster investigations.
  • Collaborates with federal, state, regional, and local agencies, emergency response partners, healthcare organizations, and government officials to investigate and respond to environmental health threats and public health emergencies.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates policies, procedures, strategic initiatives, and public health interventions to improve environmental health outcomes across Louisiana.
  • Oversees environmental surveillance systems, data analysis, and risk assessments to identify trends, monitor emerging hazards, and support evidence-based public health decision-making.
  • Directs health education and risk communication activities by providing technical expertise, promoting public awareness, and ensuring timely dissemination of environmental health information to stakeholders and the public.
