Professional Engineer (PE)

San Antonio, Texas

Black and McDonald, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas to lead design, engineering oversight, and project execution across utility, commercial, and industrial sectors. This role is responsible for ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and successful project delivery while also contributing to business growth through client development and work acquisition. This position is in San Antonio, Texas and typically reports directly to the Vice President of Engineering.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) and apply professional seal as required
• Develop, review and approve system designs, including, but not limited to:

oUtility power systems

Transmission

Distribution

Substations

oLighting

oGrounding

oBack-up and emergency power

oGrid Modernization
• Ensure designs comply with all applicable codes and standards
• Oversee contracts and negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements
• Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and clients to ensure alignment on scope, cost, and schedule
• Support field teams
• Leverage industry knowledge and relationships to identify, pursue and secure work
• Support and actively participate in sales efforts, including client meetings, presentations and proposal development
• Follow safety procedures

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• 10+ Years of Industry Experience
• Extensive experience using software such as PLS-CADD, O-Calc, Pole Foreman, Spidacalc and/or GIS
• Substantial knowledge of electric utility and communication systems
• Advanced knowledge of applicable codes such as the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and the National Electric Code (NEC)
• Self-motivated and doesn't require much direct supervision
• Lead projects
• Proven experience in supporting or leading business development/client acquisition efforts
• Demonstrated mentoring/coaching of junior staff
