Description
The City of Springfield's Department of Environmental Services is seeking applicants for multiple Engineering positions (Professional Engineer with option to underfill as an Engineer III, Engineer II, and Engineer I). The positions will be in our Wastewater Collection System Division or Water Quality Management and Protection Division and may focus on some or all the following areas:
  • Manage infrastructure planning and capital improvement projects with design consultants;
  • Perform capital/program planning and rehabilitation improvement analysis;
  • Review system performance and data to prioritize future wastewater projects;
  • Create and review bidding specifications and work with contractors during construction;
  • Design wastewater infrastructure improvements;
  • Work with a team of construction, inspection, analysis, and design professionals in collection system assessment, performance, and asset management;
  • Review of sanitary sewer engineering plans for community development projects;
  • Update or utilize the sanitary sewer hydraulic model.

The ideal candidates will seek innovative solutions and have a technical background in water resources, environmental, sanitary sewer, stormwater, or wastewater engineering. Experience in project management, wastewater infrastructure, and/or GIS and data analysis is preferred. Supervision of staff may be necessary for the positions.

Qualifications and Requirements
Experience, Education, and Training

Professional Engineer


  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in an Engineering discipline;

AND
  • Four years of experience in engineering work.
  • Engineering experience must be commensurate with assigned specialty area required for current vacancy.
Engineer III (Underfill option):
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in an Engineering discipline;

AND
  • Three years progressively responsible engineering experience;
  • Must possess an Engineering Intern (EI) certificate from a State Board of registration for Professional Engineers within probationary period;
  • Master's Degree in Engineering may be substituted for the EI certification.
Licensing/Certification
  • Must possess a Professional Engineer's license;
  • Must possess MO license as issued by the Missouri State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers within six months of employment.


Engineer II (Underfill option):
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related area;

AND
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience;
  • A Master's Degree in Engineering may be substituted for one year of the required work experience;
  • Work experience must be commensurate with assigned specialty area for required vacancy.

Licensing/Certification
  • Must possess a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License;
  • Engineering Intern (EI) certification is required.

Engineer I (Underfill option):
  • Must possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in an Engineering discipline providing appropriate engineering education related to the specialty area with current vacancy.

Licensing/Certification
  • Must possess a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License;
  • Must possess Engineering Intern (EI) certification or acquire within probationary period.
