Location: Alsip, IL

Shift: Night Shift (10-Hour Schedule) Monday - Thursday – 9:00 PM – 7:30 AM

Overtime: Overtime and weekend work required as business needs dictate

Greif is seeking an experienced Production Supervisor to lead manufacturing operations within a highly automated plastics and blow molding facility. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for driving safety, quality, productivity, and employee engagement while supporting operational excellence across a unionized manufacturing environment.

This role is ideal for a manufacturing leader who combines strong people leadership with the technical ability to troubleshoot automated equipment, make process adjustments, improve production performance, and lead continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will foster a strong safety culture, develop high-performing teams, and drive results through Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen principles.

What You'll Do

As Production Supervisor, you will provide leadership and direction for hourly production employees while overseeing the safety, quality, productivity, and operational performance of the assigned shift.

You will work closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Human Resources, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to ensure production targets are met while maintaining compliance with safety standards, collective bargaining agreements, and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily production operations in a fast-paced, automated plastics manufacturing and blow molding environment.
  • Supervise all shift activities, including employees, equipment, safety, quality, housekeeping, and production performance.
  • Drive a safety-first culture by ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and environmental requirements.
  • Conduct shift meetings, communicate production priorities, monitor progress, and respond effectively to operational challenges.
  • Utilize mechanical aptitude and technical expertise to troubleshoot automated production equipment, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Make process and machine adjustments as needed to improve equipment performance, minimize downtime, and maximize efficiency.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Engineering teams to improve equipment reliability and production performance.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including safety, productivity, downtime, waste, scrap, quality, labor utilization, and overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Support root cause investigations and implement sustainable corrective actions for safety, quality, and operational issues.
  • Maintain production reporting, run sheets, line boards, and shift documentation to track performance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Work closely with Shipping and Warehouse teams to support customer delivery requirements.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop employees to improve performance, engagement, and career growth.
  • Partner with Human Resources regarding attendance, performance management, employee relations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Effectively manage employee relations within a unionized workforce while ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and operational excellence throughout the facility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of manufacturing leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience leading employees in a unionized manufacturing environment required.
  • Experience in plastics manufacturing, blow molding, injection molding, packaging, or similar automated production operations strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting automated production equipment and making process adjustments to improve operational performance.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving abilities.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience monitoring and improving production KPIs and operational metrics.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, workplace safety requirements, and environmental compliance standards.
  • Proven ability to lead safety initiatives and drive continuous improvement.
  • Experience managing attendance, performance, employee development, and workforce engagement.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing reporting systems.

Compensation Range:

The pay range for this position is $90,000.00 - $153,200.00 annually. Typically, a competitive wage for new hires will fall between96,000.00 to99,000.00 annually. Offers for this position may vary based on market data and other factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. The position may also be eligible for a short-term incentive.
