Position summary:Plan, coordinate, perform, and report design verification and product validation activities for automotive seating and interior products throughout the product development lifecycle. Translate customer, regulatory, internal, and supplier requirements into executable Design Verification Plans and Reports (DVP&R). Support physical testing, evaluate physical test and CAE results, identify technical risks, and develop practical countermeasure concepts with Design Engineers, suppliers, customers, technicians, and other cross-functional teams to ensure products meet safety, performance, quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
Qualifications/Essential Skills and Experience:- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Materials, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Typically, 5-7 years of relevant automotive product development, design verification, validation, or physical testing experience, preferably with an automotive OEM, Tier 1 supplier, or comparable regulated manufacturing industry.
- Demonstrated experience completing multiple product development cycles and independently managing validation deliverables from planning through final reporting.
- Working knowledge of standards and test requirements applicable to automotive seating and interior products, including FMVSS, CMVSS, UN/ECE, IIHS protocols, OEM customer specifications, ASTM/SAE standards, and internal company requirements.
- Experience creating and maintaining DVP&R schedules; defining test conditions, samples, acceptance criteria, timing, and reporting requirements; and communicating risks or schedule concerns.
- Experience reviewing customer specifications and developing clear internal and supplier specifications that are measurable, technically justified, and compatible with product and manufacturing requirements.
- Ability to review and interpret CAE reports, compare analytical and physical test results, identify likely failure modes, and propose countermeasure concepts to Design Engineers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and project scheduling tools. Strong technical writing, organization, communication, and cross-functional problem-solving skills are required.
General Job Requirements- Create, maintain, and communicate Design Verification Plans and Reports (DVP&R), including validation scope, test conditions, sample quantities, acceptance criteria, responsibility, schedule, status, risks, and final conclusions.
- Review and interpret customer, regulatory, internal, and supplier specifications for automotive seating and interior products. Identify missing, conflicting, or unclear requirements and coordinate resolution with applicable stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain internal and supplier technical specifications, test methods, acceptance criteria, and reporting expectations.
- Plan, perform, support, and document physical product testing. During qualification and training, personally set up and conduct tests and operate applicable test equipment and data-acquisition systems. After methods are established and technicians are trained, provide technical direction and oversight while technicians perform routine execution.
- Coordinate test technicians, suppliers, prototype groups, outside laboratories, Design Engineers, manufacturing, quality, customers, and other stakeholders to complete validation activities safely and on schedule.
- Analyze test data, document observations and failure modes, determine compliance to requirements, prepare technically accurate reports, and communicate results, open concerns, and recommended next actions.
- Review CAE reports for assumptions, boundary conditions, load cases, acceptance criteria, results, and correlation to available physical test data. Communicate concerns and required follow-up to CAE and design teams.
- Lead or support root-cause analysis and develop feasible countermeasure ideas with Design Engineers to meet performance and specification requirements. Consider downstream effects on safety, manufacturability, quality, cost, timing, and product function.
