Job Title: Body Closures Engineer - Side Door Structures
Location: Dearborn, MI
Job Type: W2 Contract
Expected Hours per Week: 40 hours per week
Pay Range: $40-$42 per hour

Position Summary:
The Body Closures Engineer will be responsible for Side Door Assemblies and opening/closing systems, including Door Structures, Hinges, and Check Arms. This role supports the full product lifecycle from concept design through production, including component release, supplier engagement, BOM management, prototype builds, validation testing, and manufacturing support. The engineer will lead issue resolution efforts, support current vehicle programs, and ensure all targets for quality, cost, weight, performance, and timing are achieved.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own Side Door Structure commodities including sheet metal structures and hinges.
  • Release and manage closures components throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Support concept development, CAD design reviews, CAE analysis, prototyping, validation, and production launch activities.
  • Manage BOMs using AVBOM, FEDEBOM, and WERS systems.
  • Lead root cause investigations and issue resolution using Six Sigma and 8D methodologies.
  • Support GPDS processes, FMEA development, P-Diagrams, and Robustness Engineering disciplines.
  • Work with suppliers, purchasing, and STA teams through sourcing and supplier engagement activities.
  • Participate in Technical Design Reviews (TDRs) and present engineering solutions to leadership.
  • Support prototype builds and implementation activities at assembly plants.
  • Resolve engineering and manufacturing issues through AIMS and JIRA.
  • Support VQR, VRT, and PVT activities to address quality and plant concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with program targets for cost, quality, weight, performance, and timing.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field.
  • 2+ years of experience with Body Closures engineering, specifically Side Door Assemblies.
  • Experience releasing Door Structures, Hinges, Check Arms, or related closures components.
  • Proficiency with CATIA and/or 3DX.
  • Experience using Teamcenter.
  • Ability to read and interpret CAE reports and simulation results.
  • Experience managing Bills of Material (BOMs).
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, DMAIC, and 8D problem-solving methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of steel and aluminum materials, statics, dynamics, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Liftgates, Tailgates, Moonroofs, Dynamic Sealing, or Moveable Glass systems.
  • Ford experience with AVBOM, FEDEBOM, WERS, GPDS, and AIMS.
  • Leadership experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Project Management experience.
  • 3D Printing experience.
  • Change Management experience.
  • Strong planning and program tracking skills.
  • Knowledge of stamping, forging, and other manufacturing processes.
