Full Job Description
You'll own features end to end, from a fuzzy concept to a shipped, polished experience, and you'll design the interaction paradigms for a product where AI is the medium, not a feature bolted on. This is a hands-on generalist role with a high degree of autonomy and a high bar for craft.

It's deliberately not built for hyper-specialists or managers. At Luma, AI is how the work gets done: you're expected to think, generate, prototype, and build with it, using AI coding tools to make real working features rather than static mockups. It fits someone who has already changed how they design around AI and can move fast through ambiguity. If you need clear direction handed to you or prefer to stay in mockups, this won't suit.

What You'll Own
  • Lead major features end to end, from product thinking and user exploration to pixel-perfect visual design and high-fidelity interactive prototypes.
  • Design and prototype fluid, novel interactions for a new medium, making complex AI concepts feel intuitive.
  • Build functional prototypes and shippable features using AI coding tools, in close partnership with engineering.
  • Hold an exceptionally high bar for craft across visual design, interaction, and prototyping.
  • Drive work forward through ambiguity: step into problems early, decide with incomplete information, and keep momentum.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product, and AI researchers to shape strategy and ship the design vision at quality.

First 90 Days

One way the first 90 could unfold.
  • Days 1-30 - Immerse & Diagnose: Learn the product and its AI-native interactions, and identify where the experience can be sharper.
  • Days 30-60 - Ship & Validate: Own a real feature from concept to shipped, prototyped and built with AI tooling alongside engineering.
  • Days 60-90 - Scale & Systemize: Raise the craft bar around you and set patterns other designers and engineers can build on.

What You Bring
  • 5+ years building delightful, innovative products at scale.
  • Strength in both craft and product thinking, across visual and interaction design.
  • AI woven visibly into your process and portfolio, with experience building functional prototypes in tools like Cursor or Claude Code.
  • A portfolio of work that shipped to production, showing how you framed the problem, how it evolved, and its impact.
  • Comfort moving fast, converging, and knowing when to stop iterating.
  • A track record of creating momentum and influencing decisions across teams.
  • A portfolio is required.

Nice to Have
  • Experience designing complex creative software: video or photo editors, design tools, or developer tools.
  • World-class interaction design: fluid micro-interactions, complex state transitions, prototypes well beyond static screens.
